Oh sorry. Free play ONLY if they're throwing grenades at each other and pretending to shoot each other up.

Man, you guys get really rustled over differing opinions.

The words she used was our child was evil because she hung Barbie in effigy.

i wasn't allowed to have barbies until i was too old to even be interested in playing with one. my mom thought that barbies would lead to me wanting to be a 'woman' too fast. i was, however, given the complete "Heart Family" for my 7th or 8th birthday, which would obviously encourage my proper feminine aspirations for adulthood:

If my sons started playing with My little Pony, I'd have to ask if everything is ok; on that note we played with guns and play grenades growing up, it doesn't make one into a killer.

And welcome to the P&R forum!

My father freaked out and got upset with his parents for giving all his sons the very first 12 inch GI Joe that came out for Christmas in 1964. He didn't want his sons playing with dolls. Doll, my a$$, that was a 12 inch tall articulated army man! It was my favorite childhood toy, and he killed or was killed thousands of times. Every birthday and Christmas for years I asked for another, or at least some of accessories you could buy for them, but I never received another GI Joe item. Today I have a nice collection of vintage 12" GI Joes.

my son was given a bag full of accessories for the large gi joes, but he doesn't have (or want, to my knowledge) any of the dolls. if you're interested, i wouldn't mind sending them to you - better to be used than collect dust unwanted.

I appreciate the offer, but I finished my collection a number of years ago. There is a certain amount I display and even more I keep telling myself I'll unload one day as it just sits in storage. When I finally obtained both the GI Joe nurse and a Negro painted head GI Joe, I was done collecting more. (BTW the term Negro is what they were named at the time. When they added "life like hair" they started calling them African American, and changed the head sculpture.) Few were made of either of them, and mostly they were unwanted and destroyed or thrown away.

If they're truly the vintage items, they could be worth some thing on ebay. Mostly it depends on the rarity of the item, and if its truly vintage. They started making 12" again, plus there is a lot a reproduced ones released.

Just this morning my father said he was 9 years old when his brother gave him a 410 shotgun .America sure has changed. Often he would take it to school so maybe he could get a rabbit for supper on the way home. It would save him climbing to the top of the barn to bring down some squabs.

i don't think they're vintage, i don't know anything about them but it all looks fairly new. maybe one day my son will use them for something, or make some cash :)

america hasn't changed so much, plenty of kids are given guns and go hunting out this way.

Except they'll be in big trouble if they bring them to school now. I remember bringing my 410 to show and tell at school. Plus my school hosted a gun safety class for us kids that wanted to use a firearm. Of course you never heard of nuts coming into schools and shooting a bunch of kids then either.

america has changed in that not too many kids are responsible for shooting and killing their dinner before coming home from school, yes. america has not changed in that children are still taught to use and respect guns. i was in high school pre-columbine and there were plenty of guys who had their guns racks full in the school parking lot. out here, during hunting season, it's perfectly acceptable for kids get pulled from class to go hunting.

oh it wouldn't, but bringing a gun to school isn't necessary anymore either. is that america changing or natural civil progress?
