Hi, hopefully someone can give us some good advice on the best way to apply for legal residence in the US. My wife and I got married over a year ago in Canada. She has dual citizenship and I am Irish. We are living in turkey, working as teachers but intend on moving to a few more countries over the new couple of years. We want to travel before we think about having kids. Anyway, we are wondering if it is better to start the whole process while we are traveling the world or should we wait until we decide to settle down in the states. Some friends have suggested to get married again in the US to make things easier but I don't want to unknowingly break any rules. Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

You guys should file for US Immigrant Visa when you guys are really ready to move to United States. This process takes around 1 yr time-frame, you guys can figure out when to file.

No need to get married again in US, since you guys are already married!

Hello, and welcome to VJ. :)

This is not a process you want to begin until you are ready to move to the US. Getting remarried would be a crazy thing to do because the marriage date is still your original one. You never, ever, lie at any part of this process. Misrepresentation is taken very seriously and is grounds for a lifetime bar.

Moving from K-1 Visa Progress Reports to General Immigration-Related Discussion.
