QUEBEC – The Quebec government is taking an initial step that could lead to the creation of its own international-aid agency that would run parallel to the Government of Canada’s.

The pro-independence provincial government had raised the idea of wresting away Quebec’s share of the Canadian International Development Agency budget, to create its own body, during the recent election campaign.

It’s one of numerous ideas floated by the Parti Quebecois under its plan for so-called “sovereigntist governance,” which aims to loosen ties to Canada.

Wish they would have another referendum so we could finally get rid of Quebec. I'm tired of hearing them complain about being a part of Canada. I would like to see them do it on their own. If they can do it, all the more power to them.

But good for them that they can create their own international-aid agency.

PQ wants to erase the deficit, to help achieve independence

ESTEREL, Que. - The Parti Quebecois government says it has to tightly control the province's finances — not just to balance the budget, or please the markets, but to prove it can run a country.

Treasury Board President Stephane Bedard said Thursday that if the PQ wants Quebec to be independent, it has to show it can handle the ups and downs of the economy.

...

"I think that's the least we can do, as sovereigntists. It's maybe one of the ways to convince those Quebecers who still doubt (independence)."

The PQ insists it was handed a fiscal mess when it took power after the Sept. 4 election and has acted aggressively to bring costs under control.

Almost made it the last time. You could pretty much guarantee that the English speakers in Westmount and the West Island would split to Ontario or other places, and take all their loonies with them.

Even if Quebec voted to secede, not all of Quebec would go. The province would end up partitioned with English-speaking and indigenous areas keeping their current status. Since that is the case, why let residents of those areas vote at all in a referendum?

The only place that would even make geographic sense would maybe be Gatineau. If Gatineau went to Ontario, where would all the drunks from Ottawa go after the bars closed?

There would be plenty of loonies left in Quebec. Most of them can drive.
