hello, first time poster and I need the help of the community.

a couple of months ago I married a lovely lady from China (first visit) I am now in the process of completing the I-130 and have been trying to get information from my wife. she speaks very little English and I am looking for a decent translating site as the one I am using is terrible and all her messages to me are jumbled. also what possible problems will we have that she speaks so little English and it was on my first trip that we got married. any help would be most valuable to us........Don

What translator are you using? I would suggest google translate, but that blows for Asian languages.

Also, you'll want to start amassing some serious evidence that your relationship is legit. Maybe visit each other a few more times, help her learn English, bring her to America etc.

Translating relationship evidence (e.g. emails, personal letters, notes) is not required. The official document translations (e.g. marriage certificate) will need to be done by the notary office where her hukou is located.

Getting the information to actually fill out the forms is the primary need for a translator. I strongly advise against trying to accomplish this with software. You would be better off with an actual bilingual person doing the translation.

As somebody else said, official documents like your marriage certificate, her divorce decree, if applicable and all her civil documents must be translated at a Chinese Government Notarial office. It's call Gong Zheng Chu. She should know what that is.

if you want to print stuff from your computer, to show chinese simplified characters on yer printer,

you'll need to install a language support pack.

no translations needed for chats, emails, etc, but it's best if they actually are printed in chinese and not ?##*)_##$? type characters.

as far as the 'official' documents needed for filing the I-130 -

it's the marriage certificate - that red book - albeit translated into a white book, and just a photocopy. (1)

if you're filing soon, there is great chance that the casefile will go to a local office, and some of them use their own adjudicating rules, and are looking for a birth certificate on yer lass as well, so get a white book version of that as well , and you just need a photocopy to file with the I-130(1)

(1) Since photocopies (only) are all that is required with the I-130 for her civil docs, have her make them in china, scan all to pdf, and email them to you. you can print them out, and include them with the I-130 . Getting white books is not a big deal, usually, but it starts with a trip to the family registry office - they will read her hukuo book, make a birth certificate. Then the marriage book and birth certificate (all in Chinese) are taken to a translation office, and white books are made on each thing.
