I don't get it. Why are some people against it?

the whole "where does life begin at" debate.

Still don't get it. Is it better to throw away the embryos than to research them?

I don't know if it's true or not, (never know when, if ever, to trust a politician!!! ) but after the election Tues. it was mentioned that WI is the leading state for stem cell research..if that's true, then  WI! It wouldn't surprise me, because Madison is a *very* good hospital from everything I've read/ been told. I'm sure they do some research there and at the university...my mom had cancer and said if it ever came back she wouldn't want to go anywhere but Madison. M.

PS..no point to all of that except YAY WI! ;) (c'mon..we get to take credit for so little!! except the storms...we had a blizzard today...at least 8 inches on the ground out there here in northern WI. :( It's way to early for this #######... :(

For me, my reservations have nothing to do with when life begins, etc. I'm strongly pro-choice and I think legally speaking, protection under the law should begin at birth (or at some point near to birth).

I keep trying to articulate what about it exactly makes me uncomfortable, but I somehow can't word it correctly. I guess it basically comes down to what kind of boundaries we as a society should put on science -- does science get free reign to do whatever it wants and grow as much as possible or is there such a thing as "playing God" and areas that science shouldn't touch? Does/should science have boundaries and if so, what are those boundaries? etc. As I said earlier, if I were ill and dying and searching for a cure and embryonic stem cell reasearch offered me hope and a chance to live, I probably wouldn't give a flying fock about ethics.

It is wrong and kills more innocent lives than it saves.

Yes, it's so much better to just flush them embryos down the toilet. 'Cause there sure ain't no tens of thousands of wombs that'll adpot them little buggers. So just flush them as is done day and day out in all those fertility clinics around the country. That way it's only killing w/o accomplishing anything at all. Grand!

Exactly - it would seem a moot point. The embryos are not going to be used to implantation anyway so the idea that its mass murder when they would end up in the trash anyway is totally misleading.

Incidentally it seems to me a lot of people were against IVF treatment when it first came on the scene, for much the same reasons. I guess after having 25-30 years to think about it, God is ok with it now ;)

It seems that it takes some people longer than others to understand new things. ;)

Yeah I worry about God, he seems to be slow on the uptake ;) Of course that could be because other people insist on speaking for him.
