Rescheduling AOS Interview

So, we finally got our notice for an interview today, and of course of all of the times they could have picked, they picked the one week where we absolutely have to be out of town...

It says on the notice that we can reschedule in case of an emergency, which I suppose this is not, but we simply can't make it. And it also says that if we do reschedule it may really delay processing, might require steps to be repeated and affect eligibility for other immigration benefits.

So my questions is basically just how much are we going to screw things up or be delayed (even more) if we reschedule? Does anyone have experience with this?

I can't imagine anything short of a true emergency being important enough to reschedule. This appointment should be your #1 priority.

You will screw it up big time.... do a search on here for people denied for not showing up for their interview.... even after they have called and asked for a new date.... if you are in hospital unable to move they will accept that... if a close family member has just died they will accept that... if you are out of town they WONT ACCEPT that...

Your EAD can be suspended... so you cant work.... your AP can be suspended so you cant re-enter the US...

Once you have received the denial notice you will have to file a motion to re-open your case or start again from the begining..

If you are intent on re-scheduling the interview then make an infopass appointment and explain your reason to them and hope they will accept it and at some point in the next year you should get a new date....

I cant imagine why you would want to have gone through a K1 and are almost at the end of your AOS and you want to put all that in jeopardy because you are going to be out of town..... seams crazy that your out of town is more important to you..... I would change my plans....

I'm really going to go crazy- I don't know what to do. I'm going to end up insane before we ever get this finished. Is it ever really finished anyways?

Don't these people take holidays too? I just assumed that all places got the holiday break off. It's the only time I can travel, and I've been planning this trip for nearly a year, and I will really alienate my family if I don't go. My family is really important in my life, and this is really important to them- not to mention that it's to see family that might not really be around that much longer. No, it's not technically an 'emergency' but it's going to ###### a lot of things up in our lives if we don't go......... Why do they make it this hard? Is it purposely to keep people out of the country? Aaargh....

Whatever you do, do it in person. Do NOT rely on letters or phone calls to "try" (and yes, it's a gamble) to change this appointment.

Go to your District Office as soon as possible, with evidence of your travel and beg for mercy. And the person's name and direct phone line, if possible.

There will be no such thing as 'too much' follow up for this, too. It's a massive risk, but it's also been done.

edit to add:

Here's just a couple of threads on the subject. I've seen more good news stories out of the BE group than on here:

Could you not change the day you go... so you can go to your interview and then fly out the next day???? I see your interview is on the 21st well holidays dont start for most businesses until the 22nd or 23rd and they are back at work on the 26th.... If you are going to be out of the country, I take it you do have AP as I dont see it mentioned in your signature....

Hope you can work it out....
