sorry if i'm posting in wrong area. glad i could find this website. i'm in the process of completing I-130 for my wife. i am naturalized citizen. trying to save as much money as possible and doing as much as i can of the application process on my own. my question/s is/are what is acceptable foreign documents translation for USCIS. in other words per instructions on filling out I-130, foreign documents such as birth certificates must be tranlsated into English. I am fully capable of translating this document for my wife.i even have a tier II english/spanish bilingual certificate. instructions don't say anything about translated documents needing to be notarized, but need to be certified by person translating that the translation is accurate. so, would i be able to make the translation or would i need the services of a professional? also, would my birth certificate need to be translated or just my wife's . thanks so much for any assistance i can get. the cost for translations is $50 and i could really use that money for other things if possible. thanks again.

They don't need to be notarized but whatever isn't in english I would suggest getting them translated, so if your birth certificate isn't in english you need that translated and also your wives if hers is in a different language. I am not sure if your qualified to translate it but if you are a certified translator and have been approved to translate documents and have a license for that I guess you could. But I'm not sure about that, you should double check.

What im finding after a second look into the required documentation for i-130 and g325a is that they are not requesting birth certificates. They request petitioner's citizenship verification and our marriage. Certificate, and other items but not birth certificates. Unless im missing it??
