I do remember reading about that old rule. I still think ti's stupid that we refer to people that have any hint of African ancestry as black. I am sure genetically Obama is every bit as much white as he is black

It depends which genes are dominant, especially the ones that affect outward appearance. For instance, you wouldn't call a black rose a white rose, simply because the bush also contains a recessive gene for lack of pigment in its chromosomes.

True but for concensus purposes, this was the rule of thumb, even if you are 1/16th black, they could classify you as Negro.

It is much harder to be a Native American is the eyes of the US Government. The dilution rules are such that you can never have the same or a larger share of aboriginal blood, than one of your parents. Some benefits require a significant fraction to be a member of a particular tribe or band.

Ok, this is kinda funny. I just looked up Cory Booker's Wiki page. Under "Personal Life", this is the first sentence.

Physical characteristics are only a small part of the whole Genome. By examining the genetics of person you can determine certain characteristics related to ancestry. Genetic make up controls a whole host of factors not rleated to appearance such as less than average IQ's.

Someone like Obama would have half his Chromosomes from his father and half from his mother as would any other human on the planet. Hence the statement genetically he would be just as much white as he would black.
