My husband (fiance at the time) had these questions at his interview:

Given a piece of paper , list your fiances sisters , brothers and father , complete with job and salaries (yes salaries) He couldn't answer salaries :)

The day and year your fiance started her past job (past job was 15 yrs previous) I don't even remember what the date was :) He knew where and how many years ago but not the date :)

Please add , I've heard some great ones from others!

What was the name of your fiance's daughters last boyfriend? That was the one that tripped him up. Dang, she is a teenager, I felt lucky if I knew the answer to that.

I agree. Responding accurately to ridiculous questions such as the one about the daughter's bf would probably seem rehearsed. I think a calm explanation as to why you don't know that information would be better (that is if you don't know that information). That's just my opinion.

I don't believe the purpose of such questions is to have a correct answer, rather the purpose is to see how to interviewee handles such questions. I also don't believe responsing to all questions accruatly is necessarly a good thing. My opinion.

I agree, as well. When my husband and I were interviewed, if we didn't know an answer we were truthful and told them we didn't know. The CO asked my husband the name of my ex-husband's girlfriend, my hubby had no clue, I never told him what her name is. The CO just went on to the next question.

Yes, its true that there is no way to know the answers to these questions. However if you take a nervous foreign spouse and put them into that situation they feel ridiculous and to them it feels like they were set up for failure. Maybe some people start making up answers to satisfy the question and that is what puts up a red flag, it just made my husband feel sick to his stomach.

i agree, and i think it's crappy that consulates do this. false confessions and answers in those situations are a real thing and don't prove a damn thing. but i don't see an end to this practice any time soon, so being prepared for it is very necessary.

Yes, I don' t either . I just told my husband if you don't know , you don't know . If you have something you do know that's close to what they are asking then tell them that. For example I saw someone was asked how far it was from work to home for his wife, he didn't know. Just tell them my wife leaves work at 4:30 and is home by 4:45, so its a 10min drive. But its easy to say what to tell when your not standing in the situation. I also tell now him as a joke , tell them my wife said if I screw up my interview she's going to kick my butt and thats the one thing I do know right now lol.

I agree, it's all about how they handle the question. My husband was asked to tell the interviewer what I had done in my 29 years of life. I was 26 at the time and so he corrected her with my age and birth date. She fought with him saying that he didn't even know his wife's birthday but that was definitely just a test. He remained calm and sure in his answers which was important.

My interviewer asked me to tell a funny story about my fiance.

I told her that the first Filipino word he learned was "yabang" which means "arrogant" because that's what I call him.

She laughed and told me that my visa was approved. :)

She then asked what our plans for the wedding were. I told her that now that my K-1 was approved, the next step was to petition my parents for a tourist visa so they can come. She was very encouraging and told me that I didn't need to "petition" them, that they can apply that same day if they wanted.

Edit: Oops, didn't notice I was in the MENA forum! Sorry. :bonk:

The visa interviewer didn't ask any off the wall questions during my husband's interviewer, but the AOS interviewer sure had a bunch! She was very interested in my conversion to Islam (which happened prior to even meeting my husband), had no idea how you could meet someone on the Internet and wanted us to explain Myspace, Yahoo messenger, Skype, etc. She asked a lot of questions about how his family accepted me, why he chose to marry a convert, things like that. (It's all in my timeline if you're super curious) All in all it reminded me of a conversation I would've had with a super-nosy relative or something.

None of which has anything to do with legit marriage. I'm sorry Amy, that sounds annoying as hell.

Our AOS interview in Portland was so easy. No one pestered us about religion or social media, we just showed the interviewer some pictures we took at Crater lake and California and that somehow convinced the guy we were for reals. Road trips, who knew...

Our AOS interview sounds similar, sandinista. Vacay pics and just asked the questions that were on the application ie are you a spy? To which we all laughed, including the officer interviewing us.

My husband's visa interview was super easy as well. They asked what kind of work I do and where I work. My husband said, secretary (close enough) and law firm. That was it. Nothing about my kids, ex, parents, etc.
