To have Fiance for the Visa Interview or Not?

Hi Guys,

I don't have an interview date yet, but I hope to get one in the next 2 weeks. For New Delhi Embassy, do they even let the fiance inside for the interview? And is it recommended. Any of you gone without the fiance ? How was that experience.

Our case is pretty straightforward (I think), no red flags as such.

Thanks!

Yes, the USC is permitted to attend the interview with the applicant.

I would always, always, always recommend the USC attend the interview, even in "simple" cases. Any additional processing that may need to be done based on general relationship questions can take weeks, if not months. If you are present to address those questions head one, you may eliminate the need for the additional processing saving yourself some heart ache and grief.

If you look through the 221g subforum you'll see an AP thread for Mumbai - I think there are some Delhi people there too who are waiting on a visa due to a missing paper, a question of ongoing relationship, etc. Some people have been waiting since October to have it resolved. So, if being there may save you a little heart ache and you can swing it - why not?

Your fiance(e) can attend the interview. Have a look at some of the consular reviews for where you are having your interview and see what is said / how the experience is. Sometimes having the fiance(e) there really strengthens the case :)

Good luck!

Total agreement with "catknit".

This is true for K1 visa specially... Petitioner presence at the interview will help a lot, most of times, it will turn rejection/AP in to visa approval.

I am planning on going with my husband just to support him. The interview can be extremely stressful and intimidating. I would not want him facing that alone. And as catnit said, you can potentially save yourself a lot of aggravation if they require something from you.

Good luck! Please post a review of your experience after the interview :)

I am the petitioner.

I wish I had gone to the K-1 Visa interview; but I believed the Consulate when they said only the applicant can attend. On the Mumbai Embassy site that is stated and further it says . . ."The decision to admit non-applicants is at the discretion of the Consulate staff." So I don't know if I would have been admitted and regret not going; we are in AP.

Why not, if you can be there, in New Delhi?
