Okay, so I am not one to understand the whole filing taxes very well, since I typically use my parents' accountant this time of year. I understand the process to file jointly for my husband who is not in USA, as we wait for him to come here on the CR-1. I know to do the W-7 and everything and get him an ITIN. But, my question is...theoretically, would we get more money back in tax returns if I filed us jointly or separate if I am working and he has no income to file (he is a student in his country)? Does this question even make sense?

Just wondering if anyone has any advice.

Thanks!

Def joint. Filing joint gives you more tax breaks and since he has no income only your income will be calculated. If you're willing to jump through the hoops in order to file joint then by all means, do it!
