Hello vj family, I have a question. This is my first time filing as married filing jointly, I am still at the NVC phase and my husband is overseas, I know I have to file w7 with all document with my tax return, my question is how do I paper file when the tax software that I am using will not let me continue without spouse ssn or ITIN? Thank you. Good luck to everyone.

You have to paperfile in the end anyway. So try this...use any made up SSN and see if it'll let you proceed. Then in your print preview, correct (remove) the SSN before printing out the tax return? And if you're using a basic version of Turbotax, I don't think it does a W7, so try a higher version, or try Lacerte.

turbotax is owned by Intuit, which also owns Lacerte tax software, that's professional level. I don't know if you can get it, but try Lacerte. That definitely has W7 in its program.

Just enter a made up number like 900-90-9000 then once you are done printing, white out or cross out the bogus number. I actually wrote over it with "APPLIED ITIN". Once you get your ITIN number remember to update your software with the new number so it doesn't try to carry over the bogus numbers later on.

mfj ? efile? NONE!

all is paper, review the w-7 instructions again, aye?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
