Looking For Work When She Gets Here

My wife has has four degrees; two Bachelor's and two Master's from her college in Bulgaria.

I have a few questions, and I know that they probably won't have any real direct answers, but better to ask and be disappointed than not ask and never know...not that I want to be disappointed lol.

1. Is there any way for me to find out if her degrees will be valid in the U.S. when she gets here? She worked her butt off for a little over seven years, double majoring for a few of them, for these degrees, and I'd hate to think it would be in vain. She is not content with a minimum wage or "convenient" job; she and I both want her to have a fulfilling career. I understand that with me being in the military, that will take a bit of strategic maneuvering, but nonetheless, we'd at least like her to have a decent shot with the credentials she has.

2. If they are not valid, either partially or completely, what would we have to do to get them recognized, if anything?

3. Unrelated to the above questions: if we were to try and get her a job with the government, what requirements would there be for her as a conditional LPR? Are they allowed to work for the government, and, if so, would there be any additional requirements on top of what there are for USCs? Being enlisted, I know all the hoops and acrobatics with contracts, background checks, etc. etc.

She would only need to evaluate her diploma if she was trying to go back to school. Employers don`t really care where you got your education unless the job requires specific certification. If she wants to go back to college like most Bulgarians I know, she can start applying now so she can make sure her University sends the proper documentation to the evaluating organization.

As somebody whose education is pretty similar to your wife's (add an almost completed PhD), unless her degrees are in a high demand field, or she goes into academia, she's in for a rude awakening.

How do you know the education is similar when you don't know the field? A master's in chemistry certainly quite different than a master's in philosophy.

OP: what are her degrees in? Without knowing that advice can't be given.

politican science (bachelors degree)

marketing (bachelors degree)

diplomacy and international relations (masters degree)

financial management (masters degree)

i want to work something that has a future

i dont mind starting as an internship or something that is not paid to get experience in the field

since i have 0 working experience, which i figure will be the biggest problem

but i hope i can find a job that i can build on, not a dead end job

The best way to see what is out there is to look at job postings. Start with monster.com. Here is one in Dayton that requires a marketing bachelor's degree. It's IT heavy so I don't now if it applies to you, but you can research what is out there, what people want, etc, and see what matches to you. http://jobview.monster.com/Marketing-Campaign-Analyst-Job-Dayton-OH-118807149.aspx

Generally degrees aren't required to be evaluated for a normal job. Continuing education or getting a qualification of some sort (like a license to practice) is different. A gov job depends on the agency. The Post office is obviously different from the CIA.

I meant in number, not qualifications.

Tho I have a BA in Internal Relations under my belt as well, as coincidence would have it.
