Filing tax while spouse is out of country

Hi All,

I am LPR and married on Dec 2011. I-130 Petition for my wife is currently Pending in CSC. Today Tax representative told me that I can still file the tax return as a joint although my wife is not in states yet. I have to send her w-7 form and 1044 tax form to sign and then I have to mail those forms to IRS office in Austin Texas. is this correct? Have anyone done this before? this w-7 form assigns ITIN number for my wife. I didn't know this before and I filed as a single on 2012.

I looked into the w-7 form : http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf and in line 6d it asks for : "Date of Entry to the United States ( MM/DD/YYYY)" and my wife never came to US. What shall I fill on this? Shall I just leave it blank. This line 6d tells me that I cannot use this form since my wife is never in this country.

Please let me know how you guys are filing tax and if you guys have used this way to file as a joint then would you please let me know what you guys mentioned on line 6d?
