file assigned to an adjudicator

I was told last week by my senators office that my file is finally assigned to an adjudicator. Does anyone know how long it takes to process once it arrives at this step?

Mine took less than 2 weeks and I was told to call back if I have not hear anything from them after 2 weeks and they kept their promise.

Hope it didn't change.

I would think it takes them some minutes, maybe couple of hours to look through the file and arrive at a decision. The process of passing the file along the file to where it finally gets updated into the systems is what will make it stretch into weeks. So hopefully you are about to hear some good news.

ndu26, there are parts of the process that could take a while. For example, if the background checks of the petitioner or beneficiary come up with anything criminally questionable, even if there's just someone with a similar name in the criminal database, then the adjudicator will request additional information, which can take some time. Or if the adjudicator needs to verify some information, such as someone's previous immigration or marriage record, they will frequently investigate this themselves. In other words, sometimes the supplied information doesn't exactly speak for itself, and it does take longer than a day or so.

I expect an RFE. That's kind of encouraging really because I'll know exactly what they want from me and I'll be ab;e to supply it, and I'll know my case is on someone's desk ready to be approved when I give them what they need.

What really makes me angry is the idea that our local field office is letting forms gather dust, like Atlanta says they are doing. This causes people hardship and suffering and it's inexcusable. I may get in touch with my senator's office this week to find out what they are up to, since I am sure they will not tell me what's really going on up there.

you are quite right. I forgot all about that background check. Honestly i dnt know how I would have handled a delay in this process. As smooth as my case is moving I am almost having anxiety with it still. the other day I had to chastise my husband when he suggested that our case was not moving fast enough as hinted by one of his friends based in Germany . They seemed to think that all I needed to have done was write the embassy that I am a USC and would like my husband to be given a visa to come be with me ASAP. I had to let him know that so many people are going through a lot to get past the stage we have gotten past so he better be grateful.

I'm having disabling anxiety. And yes, I'm sick and tired of people asking me "can't he just come over and then apply" and I'm even more sick of people assuming something is questionable about us because the process is taking so long... it's only been 3.5 months! Of course some of those people are in countries where the immigration process is easier, but that doesn't mean they're clever for assuming it's that way in the US too.
