I agree..... Off topic a bit, in a couple weeks heading to the PI with the wife.. Are we allowed to hit either immigration line now? Pick the shortest?? Haha

Nope.

If you have hold a foreign passport you still have to line up with the "tourists".

that is what had happened with my son (usc through crba and holding a us and pi passport) and i during our last trip - oct 2012.

such a pain....

You can avail of the balikbayan visa if you are travelling with your wife. In the immigration they are going to call out who are balikbayans & you can fall in line in that line. Just show your marriage certificate.

http://www.philippineconsulate.com.au/balikbayan-one-year-visa-free-stay.html

Balikbayan one-year visa-free stay

Balikbayans – any overseas Filipino returning to the Philippines, including former Filipinos who have acquired foreign citizenship – can stay in the Philippines without a visa for a period of one year. The balikbayan visa-free stay privilege is extended to the balikbayan’s non-Filipino spouse and children, provided they enter the Philippines with the balikbayan.

Former Filipino balikbayans traveling to the Philippines are advised to bring either their old Philippine passport or copy of Philippine birth certificate as proof of their former Philippine citizenship. Accompanying family members of the balikbayan can bring appropriate supporting documents:

  • For the spouse: copy of marriage certificate
  • For each child: copy of birth certificate
  • For adopted children: copy of adoption papers

Philippine Law (R.A. 9174) provides benefits to baikbayans:

  • Tax-exempt maximum purchases in the amount of USD 1,500, or the equivalent in Philippine and other currency, at Philippine Government–operated duty free shops
  • Exemption from Travel Tax, provided that their stay in the Philippines is one year or less. If their stay in the Philippines exceeds one year, Travel tax will apply to them.

Weird, they've let my husband and me go through the USC line together every single time with him just being a tourist. Last time, too, and that was in December. The first time we actually assumed that we had to split up, but the ladies at the passport check told us both to go through the USC line since we were married.

Unless all these years I've been reading things incorrectly, I'm 90% sure the US only recognizes dual citizenship from children born to parents from two different nations, even if one has renounced one citizenship to obtain another. As long as one parent holds a foreign birth certificate, the child can become a dual citizen. However with adults it's not possible since they weren't born with that right.

At least I know for a fact this is how the US and Germany have agreed on this, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same for everyone else since it appeared to be standard policies in both the US and Germany. My husband and I have looked into this crossing our fingers, but it seems he'll have to keep his citizenship and keep renewing his green cards or he'll have to naturalize.

Incorrect on both counts.

For the US they don't care.

For Germany he too can become dual as long as he files for BBG BEFORE filing for USC. Here's a thread on VJ about it: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/241744-dual-americangerman-citizenship-beibehaltungsgenehmigung/ Many of the German citizens on VJ have since become dual. As long as he applies for BBG first, your husband won't have a problem retaining both.
