I'm starting to lose it. On the FOURTH visit to the IRS today, after filling out paperwork to formally request a tax return transcript last week, my husband was handed... a 1-page account summary. This is obviously different from the actual tax return transcript which is 5-6 pages, and which is what we have for the prior 2 years.

Has anyone tried applying with the IRS "account summary" transcript as opposed to the line-by-line tax return transcript? I'm just mad at this point that the damn IRS office doesn't give a damn about anything. I might just have to send in option a), with all the same bank accounts, leases, and tax documents that I submitted for ROC.

I would send it with the account transcript for now. I sent those with my AOS application but it doesn't specify "return transcript" for that whereas it does for this.

At least if you do it with that you're in the waiting line (your application shouldn't be returned for them but your interview letter might request them) and can continue to argue with the IRS :P

That IRS rep has no clue. I was told by our IRS rep that the 5-6 page one you just spoke of is what immigration wants to see. She told me this after I proudly said I'm applying for naturalization. But like Vanessa says, use what she gave you nonetheless. It'll atleast get you in the door. and get the right tax transcript, the 5-6 page one and take with you to interview later on. Let's get your application rolling! Use what you've got hun!

Is there anyway, you can go back and show them the one page summary is NOT what you requested? and that you need the actual return transcript?

QUOTE (tyme @ Aug 9 2008, 11:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Let's look at their - Interview officer - viewpoint.

Tax transcripts - either tax return transcript or tax account transcript - consume less space, easy to read, and certified by IRS.

If you can, please use tax transcripts.

That will help interview officer and other USCIS people.

As otherpeople pointed out already, it is free, and it takes only 10 days for tax return transcript.

You can fax the request if you are tired of holding on phone line.

Tax account transcript will take more time. It said up to 30 days.

The difference between tax return transcript and tax account transcript is before/after IRS adjustification.

Tax return transcript is based on the info you submitted.

Tax account transcript is based on the info after IRS adjusted the number by IRS.

Tax return transcript will take up to 10 days, and tax account transcript will take up to 30 days.

If you are lazy enough not to request this kind of info, you can use your copy of tax return, but it may give big Sigh to interview officer when they look at the stack of papers.

Just FYI otta- I went to the Rego Park, Queens location today. There was only a 20 minute wait and I got the return transcripts for each year. I was even asked if it's needed for Immigration. They were really pleasant too!

But that would make too much sense :-) In response to that, we just got a shrug and were told to fill out another request, and wait for another week. It's kind of funny: we have a copy of the request form we submitted, with clearly marked "tax return transcript", and stapled to it is the "account transcript" IRS offered in response. So all we could try was another IRS office (44th St) and, lo and behold, we got the transcript! Still took over 2h in line, but now I'm ready to file! I expect to add myself to the list tomorrow or Friday. Happy to hear the Rego Park office worked out well! Go April filers!
