NRA - "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

If only the good guys on this gun range had some guns. They would be the only ones who could have stopped the bad guy with a gun.

Duh. Maybe if we had some reasonable gun control in this country, the bad guy might not have had any guns.

Right, because the bad guy that is willing to kill people will obey a gun law.

Guns in the hands of good people reduce crime, no one ever said they eliminate it. I will note that this guy was stopped by good guys with guns (AKA police)

You might want to find out who the "bad guy" is first.

Good point, my guess is a gun law would not stop him. Wanna bet?

To anyone with an ounce of rational thought, a gun range is the best place to shoot someone who has a gun. Simply put, people will expect you to carry a gun openly and, therefore, the intended targets will likely not feel threatened by someone carrying a gun. The shooter is then able to get close to the intended targets while openly carrying a firearm.

That scenario doesn't bode too well for all the gun nuts that want everyone to carry guns, does it? I thought more guns equaled more safety?

I remember someone specifically bringing up gun ranges in the "more guns, more safety" argument. Oh well. Can't win em all.

PTSD, and the murder victims attempt to help veterans who suffer from it, not a conspiracy contract hit or even so much about the weapon used, appears to be at the heart of this sad story.

This was Chris Kyle. The most prolific sniper in American military history. He was one of my heroes. I highly recommend all of you, whether pro-gun or anti-gun, pick up and read his book American Sniper. It goes into great detail about the kind of person he is and what he went through during his time as a SEAL.

From what I understand, he was helping a vet with PTSD.

Many of you would guffaw at this, but it's been shown scientifically that re-enacting the events that caused the PTSD can actually help treat it (I wanted to say cure it, but I won't go that far). They do this with military personnel in rehab by strapping them up to virtual reality simulators with props and rifles and everything, and it helps.

Now, Chris Kyle was not a doctor. I'll agree that placing a firearm in the hands of a mentally ill individual such as this wasn't the best call, and he ultimately paid for it with his life. It's a sad story. But he was simply attempting to do with this man what he had been doing with hundreds of other simlarly injured vets (to include himself) for the past few years. For a guy who has been crushed by a concrete wall, shot twice, been involved in half a dozen IED explosions, and dodged thousands of bullets, I'd say he's been on Death's list for a while, it was just too scared to claim him until now.

I am the USC.

The member "Khaleesi" is my beautiful wife.

I actually saw a brief story about him while at the gym the other day. Seemed like a fascinating individual.
