Hi, I hope you receive your oath letter soon. Have you checked to see if there is any updated info on your case online at the uscis website? I signed up for email updates, so I get emails everytime there is updated info on my case. As far as the naturalization certificate, you must turn it in along with your passport application. There's supposed to be a line for passport applications at the ceremony itself, but you also have the choice of applying for a passport at a post office. If you log on to the usps website you can punch in your zip code to find out the locations and phone numbers of post offices around your area who accept passport applications. In my case, I have two children under three, so I wont be waiting in line to apply and fill out my passport application at the ceremony. I will wait perhaps a week or so, make a couple of copies of my nat certificate, then go to my closest post office in ponce to apply for a passport.

No, do not laminate it. It makes it invalid.

Just put it into one of those protective plastic sleeves you can buy in the school section at stores.

Yeah, I agree. I am not really sure whether or not it makes your nat certificate invalid. But do not laminate it before sending it in... just to be safe.

The USCIS officer at our naturalization ceremony specifically said not to laminate the certificate because it would invalidate it. She said it would be very expensive to replace if it was laminated. She also said the certificate wasn't valid until there was the naturalized citizen's signature on it too. :-)

That's great. I can imagine a lot of people not knowing that and making that mistake. It should be mandatory for all officers to make sure they let everyone being naturalized know that. I remember being at my sister's ceremony, they never mentioned it. But I also remember that someone applied for a passport with a laminated certificate and they had their passport without problems. But it's best to be safe indeed. When I get mine I'll put it on a fireproof safe and inside a plastic sheet.

had my interview this morning. was easy and took 10 minutes. I got a paper from the IO saying that I passed my interview and should ve waiting for the oath cermony. however, after a few hours since the interview status online have not been updated.
