If he goes on the website http://travel.state.gov/passport/status/status_2567.html

He can check his status and sign up to be emailed when its finished. They emailed me and sent tracking for the package to my email.

( no tracking for the certificate package tho... hasn't shown up just yet either.)

Inky, quick question, how soon after applying for your passport, were you able to track your status online? My husband's status doesn't appear yet, but it does say to allow 7-10 days before the application shows up, and he just applied 2 days ago. Also, did you sign up for email notifications when you were able to check your status, or did you do that beforehand?

Thanks for the information.

I handed it over may 2nd and just got it back today on the 20th. Didn't pay for expedited service just the regular.

Hoping the certificate comes this week, MAYBE next week. Iv heard they can be a bit slow to get that back to you.

Hello...I have one question...in order to make my passport I will have to send them The Naturalization Certificate? The original? I am still waiting for my Oath App but I know that at the end of the Ceremony you can apply there for the passport so in that case...they will give me the Certificate but I cannot even take it home, I'll have to leave it there ? Come on.........:)

Original certificate is required to be sent with the passport application.

You MUST make a color photocopy of the certificate for yourself to keep before sending it away as you will have no proof that you are a citizen once you mail off the certificate.

Hi guys,

I saw that on the interview document check list, it says we need to bring "proof of marital union as well as proof of residence."

Can anybody let me know what kind of documents should we prepare for that?

Thanks!

Thanks for your help! I will use my husband's birth certificate.

Hi Moon1982,

You do not necessarily need his passport. However, the N-659, Naturalization Interview Document Check List specifically states to bring the original and a photocopy of the applicable items listed to the naturalization interview.

If you are applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen, bring:

A. Proof that your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for at least the past three years (birth certificate, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship, your spouse's valid U.S. passport, or Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America)

So, if you cannot secure his original U.S. passport, you may need his birth certificate or another document listed.

Hope this helps some.

Do they keep the original documents or the copies?

We submitted copies of all documents with the N-400, but had all the originals at the interview, in case it was necessary to show any of them.

Thanks, smile.png we will check the status next week when it will be 7 days after my husband applied for his passport. biggrin.png

Congrats on passing your interview. Hopefully you will get your oath ceremony date soon. :)

FYI.. my husband's online status wasn't changed till the day after his interview.

It took a week for my status to change to oath scheduled. Seems like some offices do scheduling queues - other ones just skip straight to the scheduling.

Not to worry - it will change :)
