What To Wear For Legal Wedding In Her Country?

I will be getting married sometime this month to my fiancee in Bogota, Colombia, and filing the I-130 shortly thereafter. Our plan is to do a legal marriage equivalent to a courthouse or Justice of the Peace scenario. In this case, at the Notaria in Bogota. We will do a full-blown wedding ceremony when she arrives in the USA. We want to keep this as small scale as possible, signing the documents and being officially married, with no ring ceremony, wedding dress, etc., keeping all of that for the ceremony in the USA.

Has anyone here done the same thing and not had any problem getting your I-130 approved? I know they want to see evidence of being married, etc. Would we jeopardize our application by not showing her being in a wedding dress, nor me in a suit, and all the other events of a wedding? Any feedback and suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I got married in city hall. It was a hot summer day so I was in a sun dress and my husband was in a golf shirt and Khaikis

I don't know about Columbia, but Montreal was more concerned with us being legally married, not our dress code

Hello: I married in Barranquilla, Colombia at la notaria. I wore a guyabera and some brown slacks, the wife wore a simple white, wedding dress, like a sun dress but white. Her family was there (brother, mom, dad, grandmother, aunt), my mom was there from my side, we took pictures. There were people that got married at the same time in jeans and a shirt. Everyone that I saw get married had rings. I don't think it is a big deal what you wear or don't wear for a civil wedding. I would just have some pictures to document the event and I would at least have some wedding bands. Orando

USCIS does not care about what you wear but we on VJ want to make sure you had a Bachelors party. You must provide us with pictures as proof.

hi, my wife and I did the exact same thing in calarca, colombia just outside armenia. one thing to keep in mind is that the paperwork, will need to be translated and of course have the marriage license apposilled as well to prove that the document is original. as some other members have said, immigration dont really care what you wear as much as proof that you were married under real circumstances. take pictures, enjoy the day and live, laugh and love. you only get married to your life partner once... then take care of the paperwork and you will be fine.... congrats to you both.. best of luck

USCIS does not care what you wear. for our civil ceremony I just wore a peach colored shirt and grey skirt. We kept our rings till the Big church ceremony. like Speedwell, look happy(radiant even) smile lovingly at each other, take pictires with ur witnesses but most importantly make sure yoru paperwrok from that ceremoney is in order!
