Translate Chinese Birth and Police Certificate in Hong Kong

My wife is a Chinese citizen and has her birth certificate and police clearance from China but not yet translated. We currently live in Hong Kong and will be interviewing at the Hong Kong embassy.

I saw from a previous post that for the Guangzhou embassy, you need to go to the Chinese Notarial Office for Translations to translate and notarize. However, for Hong Kong, can we just get a certified translation? Anybody had this experience?

Thanks in advance,

Wayne

I would email the Embassy in Hong Kong and get their advice. They should have a company that they prefer you use. You should also print their response email and take it to the interview in case they give you trouble about the translation service used.

Email I got below in case others run into same issue. We will just translate and certify we are competent ourselves.

Thank you for your e-mail of February 1, 2013.

All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the translation is accurate; and the translator is proficient in both languages.

Sources that may provide such assistance, often for a fee, include: cultural or religious groups, private attorneys and non-government organizations. Organizations that have informed the Consulate General that they perform such services include:

International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Room 904, Yaumatei Carpark Building, 250 Shanghai Street, Kowloon

Telephone: (852) 2332-2441 or 2332-2446

Please note the U.S. Government, including the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong, does not assume responsibility for the professional ability or appropriateness of the organizations listed.

Alternatively, you may have the documents translated by a law firm or by a qualified translator. You may locate a qualified translator by searching the yellow page.
