Hi everyone,

Today I received text/email notifications with my AOS interview date (my wife is the USC, I'm adjusting from F-1). However, the interview date is during an out-of-town week-long job recruitment event that my wife absolutely has to attend. She is graduating with her PhD degree this May and has been job hunting since August last year (interviewed with >10 companies). It is very important for her to go to this recruitment event as she has a very good chance of getting a job offer.

My question is: should we even try to reschedule our AOS interview appointment with USCIS? I've read horror stories here on VJ about rescheduling attempts and applications getting denied because the rescheduling requests didn't make it to local USCIS offices. The next actions that we plan to take are these (tentatively):

(1) Send the interview letter (once we get it by mail tomorrow or the day after) with supporting documentation (e.g., my wife's invitation to the recruitment event, email exchanges she had with the company's lead recruiter, plane ticket itinerary that the company bought for her to fly to the recruitment event, etc.), and a letter from the both of us explaining the situation (been job hunting since last year, this is our livelihood, whatever it is to show USCIS that our rescheduling request is for a serious reason).

(2) Schedule an InfoPass with our local office (the soonest I can get one is in 10 days) and go there with my wife to ask about our options. Is it even possible to reschedule it from there??

(3) Go to our appointment on the original interview date anyway by myself (while my wife is out of town). I know that the interview requires both of us to be present, but this way if the rescheduling request didn't make it to our local office, I can at least try to explain to the IO our situation in person and maybe have the interview rescheduled... Or am I being too hopeful here...?

Any thoughts/suggestions/past experiences are much appreciated.

Thank you!!!

Just re-schedule it or go to the interview. I think you are over-thinking it. Most people don't have problems with a schedule change, however, the people that post online about it are the problem cases.

Go ahead and reschedule the appointment. Your case will be delayed for sure but will not be denied for rescheduling. Instructions on how to do that is on the interview notice ( hard copy). Goodluck

P.S. A friend of mine reschedule hers on the day of the interview because she had the flu and couldn't be in public. She called the 800 number and was rescheduled. Also, don't forget to make yourself a copy of the interview notice for your record..

Thank you Newbie608 and blankmedia for the advice. This morning my wife called the company and they were (thankfully!!) understanding enough to reschedule her recruitment visit. So we're set for our original AOS interview date in just over a month.

Wish us luck!!
