No you don't need a marriage certificate or the birth certificate if you have a valid passport.

Birth certificate is not required. If your wife is doing a name change, definately bring the marriage certificate... EAD and Passport with I-94 is a must...

we are not doing a name change yet - but we may later. When i sent the petition we sent it with her maiden name on everything. Is it easy to change her name at this time in the process or should we wait after she has a green card?

You could ask to have the GC in married name at the interview. When you receive GC then you can officially change name at SSA. You couldve filed the AOS forms in married name too but yeah, request that at the interview...

Oh ok - i may try that ! we just got back from SSA office and everything went well. she should have her SSN in 'two week's. does it usually get mailed before that? I need her SSN ASAP so we can enter it in job applications. The thing is we have to drive back to the SSA office in person to get her number as it won't be assigned until monday. I am not able to take off again from work to do this again as it took few hours :D wasn't bad but we did wait for like an hour and half for everything.

Just a warning, when we went to the SS office to apply for my husband they told him it would take "2 weeks", it took 5 weeks, 7 weeks after his arrival. We went back to SS twice before they finally gave us the number at the office, and another 2 weeks after that until he received the actual card in the mail, no one knows why. So if it takes longer than the 2 weeks make sure you at least call to find out what the hold up is. Good luck. How is she adjusting to the US?

Thanks for the advise ! i am gonna wait a week, if it doesn't by end of week i am going to try to get her to drive ( by herself) to the SSA office. she's been been driving around the area to get comfortable and learning how to drive on the highway heheh.

She's adjusting well, i guess little tired from sitting around the house but with EAD in hand we are hoping she'll find a part time job to start 'real ' life a bit and adjusting to the american culture. I think she'll be glad to be little independent as we got her a car in December and now learning the way around so i am sure she'll be happy once she's got some work and knows the area to drive around and get stuff done...i am sure she knows her way to the mall though heheh.

thanks for asking - how about you? how's hubby adjusting? is he home sick yet to some good mansaf? :D

yeah - baby steps , encourage him and look everywhere you can to get him out there. I am looking for anything for my wife as long as it gets her out and experience the new culture on her own.
