Just called to check on my AOS package. I'm getting a checklist. I didn't include paystubs of my own because I had a joint sponsor. So they want those. And my current bank statement. Doh! Should have just included it. :bonk:

Easy stuff. Will send it with the IV package in the next few days hopefully!

On the DS-230 form when they ask who will be immigrating with you meaning my wife do I need to include my son? He's only 2 month old. I will be doing a CRBA for him in March, so he will have his own US passport. Then my next question would be does NVC need my son birth certificate along with my wife, and which one the CRBA birth certificate or his Cambodian birth certificate? I want to know when I send the IV packet, thanks.

Since your son will have a US passport, he won't be immigrating. He's just going to be moving with you. That question is for children or spouses that are immigrating with you, ie, applying for a visa as well.

alright I was thinking I have to pay another visa fee for my son. that's good news I gotta call my wife and tell her we just save a bunch of money on our car insurance I meant visa fees on not needing to do a visa application or fee if that is the case. You think the embassy would go easy with the interview questions and everything after meeting with them in march and then meeting them again whenever my wife is schedule an interview? I'm hoping for a late april or early may perhaps.:thumbs:

Just a quick question guys, we don't need translations for the IV package right? My papers are in Arabic and the embassy is in Egypt (Arabic)! We are done with collecting all the originals and are really not looking forward to translation. It is a long process in Egypt, where you have to get stamps all over the paper after it's translated! please confirm that we don't need it please :D

You need to find out what document translation requirements are for Cairo.

Unfortunately you DO need to get them translated. Even though the embassy is in Egypt, NVC is not, and the people reviewing the paperwork will have to be able to understand what it says in order to complete your case.

Incorrect, on two points. First, the IV unit at the actual Embassy or Consulate determines what document translation requirements are, not the NVC. Second, the people reviewing at the NVC are checking to make sure that a required document is in fact in the file. Consular personnel review a document's contents.

Here's what I know-- According to the website it says translation isn't needed if its in the language of the country. We did not send translations. I did not receive a checklist for the translations when I mailed my package. Maybe they will ask for it later, but we chose not to bother with it since it wasn't a requirement.

Exactly! On the website it says that if documents are not in English or the language of the country of interview, they need to be translated. I will go ahead and send it w/o translation... :) Thanks guys ;)

An important caveat to "translations not needed if it's in the language of the country." Some IV units in some countries will require document translations even if it's in the language of the country, China is an example of this. That's why it's important to check what the IV unit at the applicable Embassy or Consulate requires.

I have for the following

AOS Packet:

1. I-864 completed and filled out

2. Federal tax return 1040 and W-2 for the following year 2012,2011,2010

3. Employment letter

IV Packet:

1. DS-230 completed and filled out part 1 signed and part 2 blank

2. Photocopy of bio page from beneficiary passport

3. 2 passport sized photos

4. original/certified copy birth certificate

5. original/certified copy marriage certificate

6. original police clearance certificate

Is that good to go? I'm kind of in a bind because I need these to be sent to NVC and at the same time I'm having to go to the embassy and needing these also to do my CRBA for my son. If I send these to NVC then I wouldn't have all the documents in March when I'm doing the counsular report of birth abroad.

So I called like 10 minutes ago, and the lady ask what is your receipt number? and I answer nicely and didn't even said a thing and the lady goes off on me with attitude like look your case was received on Feb. 11th. Ok, wait until 10-20 business days to get a case number Ok goodbye. How rude. They're probably having a bad day I guess and it's Monday. These NVC operators just needs to relax lol. Maybe even take a nice sip of seattle famous starbuck coffee and enjoy the night. Have any of you guys who NVC said they received your case on Feb. 11 gotten a case number?

NVC received mine on the same day as you, Feb 11, i called them earlier today and they told me NOT IN THE SYSTEM YET :(

Posted (edited)

If you can get a case number assigned within the next week or two, then pay bills and send packages pronto, with no checklists, you'll have a case complete by the end of March, giving you an interview sometime in May.

Honestly, I would suggest holding out. If approved at the interview, you'll be in the US by June (if you move right away). I know it's hard to be away (I was there, I know), but you're so close to the end!

http://static-forums.visajourney.com/public/style_emoticons/default/kicking.gif[/img]

Thanks! How long does the NVC process take once you have a case number? I guess I'd thought it was a bit longer and that we wouldn't be done with it until mid-April giving us a June interview. So I'll def hold off booking flights until we have a better idea. Hoping for no checklists. I mentioned in another post though that I've sent my IV package to hubby so he can send it when the time comes. However, the address on my police check doesn't match my current address on the DS-230 (I just moved 2 weeks ago) Will this be a problem/should I get it changed now or will it not matter?

Thanks,

Cat

OH...also, I notice that scanning and emailing the DS-3032 seems to be the faster option. I know they will email me a copy once we give our email address/get a case number. But can I just download one online and fill (as much as poss) of it in now to be prepared?

NVC received mine on the same day as you, Feb 11, i called them earlier today and they told me NOT IN THE SYSTEM YET :(

I'm the same date. Although mine is apparently 'in the system' but we were told that we should get a case number this week! So they're a-coming! Us Feb 11th'ers will hopefully hear something within the next few days!

All I know is my case completed without translations, and I checked the US/Cairo embassy, and the NVC consulate specific instructions and found no guidelines for translations being required. In China they are very clear that translations are required?
