If you've got a decent internet connection try Skype. I pay about $5 a month to get unlimited minutes to call any US phone line from my computer. You can subscribe for minutes for less money if you don't need unlimited minutes. It's very clear and very easy to use, I subscribed specifically for this process, international calling is toooo expensive!

That's true, Roosha! :luv: Skype is a good option!

In Mexico there are some Skype pre-paid cards that cost around $8 USD and they give you a month of unlimited calls to U.S. It's pretty convenient I think

Just called the NVC and the operator told me they are done scheduling for March. Could this be true? :(

They told my husband the same thing today :(

Hello everyone!!

I just received an email from NVC...it's a CHECKLIST :bonk: :bonk:

I am wondering if is it a false checklist, since I have filed online my DS-261 form on Feb 6th and in this checklist email it's included the cover letter and it says:

[..]

Is it a false checklist? I am trying to call NVC anyway but I get busy tone :( :( :help: :help:

I would say they reviewed your AOS package and accepted it, and this checklist is in response to that.

Just received a checklist from the NVC regarding scanned photographs, as I've read on other threads this is a false checklist correct? I don't need to take any action? just disregard this and take the pictures to the interview right? why would they send me a checklist after completeing my case?

It's not technically a checklist, it's just reminding you that you need to bring the original passport photos with you to the interview. So, no, there's no action to take.

Just called the NVC and the operator told me they are done scheduling for March. Could this be true? :(

It could be true, but unless the operator actually spent time looking, then you might not want to believe them. But, for Canada, as with the global average, it's typically two months from case complete date to interview date. I'm guessing your interview will be sometime in April. You'd be very lucky if you got a March interview, even a late one.

Yet another question for the VJ experts. On the G-325a, I put my wife's adoptive father and adoptive mother as the mother and father. The case was approved no problem. Now on the DS-230, I had my wife send me 2 signed copies. One with her biological parents, and the other one with her adoptive parents. For the biological parents, there is not address as they're deceased and I have the original death certificate. On my wife's passport, it has the adoptive parents listed as her mother and father.

What route should I take.

1.) Send the DS-230 when I submit the IV with her adoptive parents, much like the G-325a and write a letter explaining why I didn't put the biological parents. I will also include the courts adoption papers along with the death certificate.

2.) Send the DS-230 with her biological parents and write a letter explaining why I put her adoptive parents on the G-325a and why her adoptive parents are on the passport + send adoption papers + death certificates .

I think it would be best to call up NVC and ask about this one. And don't just rely on ONE operator's response. Call a minimum of five times and ask. Take the majority answer.

Once again THANKS SAYLIN!! :luv: I hope my AOS is already reviewed *Fingers crossed for that*!

I called and the operator said that I should ignore the checklist email  and soon we will get invoiced (and we will be more tham happy to pay the $230!) So I can't wait also for AOS to get approved!

Yup, the first part (IV package) is a false checklist. But the AOS part is a real checklist. Just send what they want and they should review it within a week or two once they get it.

Thanks Sylin, your inputs are very valuable for so many who are eagerly waiting like me to join their spouse.

I don't think your local office is Atlanta. Find out here: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=LO

So it seems the Oakland field office is my local field office, it has 3,100 pending petitions...not great. But for Nov. it completed 450 of the 750 of the cases sent to it. So that's good that they are processing nov. applications.

When do these field office data's get updated?

I filed the I-130 today.

I am trying to get the necessary documents for the NVC ready.

This is a very early question, but My question pertains to emailing the choice of agent form. How can one do this if the beneficiary doesn't speak/write english? Also how would the NVC know what the beneficiary's email is to begin with in order to complete the request?

What should we do in this case?

Folks, I'm so depressed this morning, please help me if you can. :crying: I know I shouldn't be sad. But I was so frightened by reading about other cases where people have taken a really long time to get from USCIS to NVC. I know that once the file actually makes it to NVC, we'll be OK and we can submit everything we need. I don't know what "supervisory review" is and I woke up this morning shaking like a leaf because I dreamed they said it would take 6 months. Even though I have that precious NOA2 letter of approval I'm secretly worried because we didn't get the RFE I was expecting and I keep thinking something's gone badly wrong. Every time I read about someone's file making it to the NVC in a week, I start feeling panicky and sick.

Could someone please tell me what realistic expectations are so I don't have to go through this pain? It's not separation from my husband so much as not knowing what to expect and anticipating delay and trouble. I'm sorry to be a pill but I am really in trouble this morning and I'm grateful for a place to talk about it where people understand. Thanks for your input.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

LATEST STEPS:

28 Jun 2013: POE Houston

08 Jul 2013: SSN received (at SSA office)

07 Aug 2013: Green Card received

27 Feb 2014: Whoa, life happened. Planning move "back home" together to Republic of Ireland by end of April.

29 Apr 2014: POE Dublin through Heathrow

15 May 2014: Received formal residency/work permission (GNIB card with Stamp 4, one year renewable) for the ROI

Speedwell, calm down. I know how frustrated you are as I went through the samething, you need to stay calm otherwise you will lose ur mind. Why would they send you an approval notice if they weren't going to approve it? They can't approve you and then not approve you. Has it been 15 business days since ur NOA2? If it has, email NVC research, email NCSC and ask them to locate ur file, attach ur NOA2. Call and speak to a different ISO and see what they say about ur files whereabouts. You've got that "supervisory review" stuck in ur head and ur allowing negative thoughts to take control. I'm sure everything will be fine and ur file will soon get to NVC, just contact them and let them know u are looking for ur file and you want it sent to NVC. All the best

Thank you, Emily, that really helps. Actually, yes, in some cases the supervisor will pull a file back into review if they think something wasn't done right, but I have no reason at this point to believe that is actually what is happening, or even that there is anything wrong at all. You're right about the negative thinking. I'm just going to let things go for a few days and stop trying to micromanage what I have no control over. Easy to say it, not so easy to do it :)

First, breathe slow 4-count breaths in and 4 counts out. Clear your mind for at least a second.

Next, I haven't seen many people getting RFEs lately. Granted, I'm no expert. But if you sent in what you needed to send in to prove marriage and it was accepted, that's a good thing. Some people's cases took minimal time to get to the NVC and others are taking longer. I think it really has just been iffy circumstances lately due to weather and holidays. February's a funny month.

I think the suggestions to call every day are actually very unhealthy from a psychological perspective. (I'm a licensed clinical social worker, by the way) From a helping perspective, I understand it. So, if you're calling every day, take a day off and call every other day. Make that commitment to yourself and keep yourself busy on the day you're not going to call.

When you do get the panicky, anxious feeling, think about whether the thought and feeling are helpful or hurtful. If it's a helpful thought, keep it, if it's a hurtful thought, acknowledge it and then immediately refocus your attention on something in your present surrounding. Mindfulness based practice. Look out the window and think to yourself, oh, there's a tree. The sky is blue. There's a cloud.

That momentary reprieve will be good for you.

Well, you have ur notice and you were told by an ISO that everything is fine. I know it's easier said than done, but you're only hurting urself by doing this...just give it a few more days, but make sure u email asking them to locate ur file. In a few days ur going to look back and laugh at the silly thoughts. I'm sure they kept my file at the local office after approving it, and I was going crazy thinking something is wrong. Let the negative thoughts go, and everything will be fine. I'm keepin my fingers crossed for u :)
