Hi,

My name is Noel. I live in Birmingham, Alabama. I work in a pharmacy doing quality control. I went to school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) and majored in English. I am engaged to Yelena, a Buryatskaya from Ulan-Ude, Russia. She is 27 y.o. We sent our I-129F package on 1-25-12 and it was received and signed for on 1-27-12. One of my colleagues has successfully brought his fiancee to America and married. So I followed the directions on Visa Journey, government web sites, and had my colleague triple check my documents before I mailed them. Everything looked good. But of course, the real deal is when the U.S. government reviews the documents and is happy with them.

A couple of things that plagued us:

-Yelena had a legal name change, so we had to gather all sorts of documents and have them translated. I used Fox Translate. We included color copies of both international passports (her old name and new name), the official documents from ZAGS with translations, her official tax number document, and a letter of explanation.

-the passport photo we took in Russia was too small. I did not pay enough attention to it, and noticed it when I returned to the States. So I sent Yelena the instructions for getting a new photo which she could send to me digitally. I took it to Walgreen's and they made a huge deal about their not taking responsibility if it was wrong. Finally, I told the manager that I would not hold them responsible to please print it. Well, he said "ok," but the background did not have enough white to fit the 2x2 size. It needed to be blown up. They weren't about to fix it. I went to Wolf Camera and they resized it and printed it for 39 cents, but they didn't cut the photo. I cut it myself and hope I didn't botch it.

Anyway, I'm extremely thankful that this website exists. It is SO helpful and informative. I'm sure I will have many more questions throughout the entire process. Thanks for reading.
