The fact that some don't find the SSN to be a big deal, is mildly concerning.

To clarify something, when I say the fake SSN is no big deal, it is in regards to this persons immigration process, not my personal opinion. In the grand scheme of things for immigration, having/using a fake SSN for working purposes is not something that will prevent a person from getting a green card. USCIS tends to look the other way with something like this because the person with the fake SSN is paying taxes rather than working under the table and avoiding taxes altogether. If the person were using the fake SSN to garner benefits from the US gov't, then it would be a completely different story.
