maybe thats one good reason to remain in a constant state of war... so we can keep them off our shores and doing harm to people other than us.

Those whacky veterans. We even have one that posts here regularly, his name is Marvin, or something like that. I hear he's a loose cannon.

I too am a vet, still serving. And I know that combat changes a person, but I also know that in some cases, restraint is needed before aggression.

Agreed. He shot into the air, that's his restraint, that's his warning. Then the car was coming at him (that's what he thought according to the article) so he shot the driver who had then wound down his window, for all he knows to pull a gun. It his mind, in that second, it was the only thing to do. In the end, it wasn't.

Shooting into the air because a car pulled into the driveway is considered restraint? Yikes.

So shoot first, ask questions later. Brilliant.

Don't own a gun if your first response to people pulling into your driveway is to grab a gun, run outside, and start shooting in the air.

Those are not the actions of a mentally sound person. And if the person is not mentally sound, due to whatever reasons, a gun is the last thing they should have.

How do you know that was the first thing that happened? The article even states some details are being withheld. We don't know that they didn't sit outside in the car for a while "looking/acting suspicious". It makes no sense that he was able to get outside with the gun in the seconds these people drove up to a house they didn't know. It makes more sense that there's more to this story.

What's also missing from this story (unless I simply missed it) is the time of day/night. That affects things as well.

They were trying to get to a friend's house, were they not? What could they have been doing in the car that was "suspicious" enough to warrant the homeowner coming outside with a gun and firing it into the air? Messing with their GPS?

If anyone here is being ridiculous, it is you. This mans military service would have trained him to realize a threat and when to use deadly force, not just pop a cap in someones ####### for pulling in his driveway. Do you think you're the only person here with family members that have served in the military? You sure act like it.

And a bit unexpected viewpoint coming from a country where guns are banned.

we need to send him to mali. those manuscripts need saving!

Most of us vets know more than one way to cause devastation. That we don't, amazes me every day. Perhaps we should be banished to some tropical island, and allowed to live our remaining days in debauchery at taxpayer expense.

Really? You can't think of any situation where you'd feel on edge if people were just sitting there in your driveway?
