Hi Everyone,

Need some help here.

We just realized that we did not enter my wife's maiden name in the n400 application, nor did we do it at the fingerprint appointment.

Her name before marriage was <firstname>. She did not have any middle or last name before marriage in any of her documents-school, college etc.

She added my last name as her lastname, keeping the same first name. Used the married name ever since. we came to the US after marriage with her new name.

Can we correct this during interview? Will it result in delays as some people say they need to run a new namecheck?

I'm thinking it wont be a big deal since her old name only had firstname , the same first name she has now.

example :

Old name : Jenny

(only used in another country before marriage)

Current name : Jenny Bates

(right after marriage until today, also appears like this in the passport, visas, GC etc)

anyone?

It can be corrected during interview. Make sure to make the note to IO.

Please bring all passport ( including expired/damaged ). It should not delay the process.

Thanks iwaiting,

All the passports have the current name as well. She did not have a passport before we got married.

since the first name is still the same, I'm hoping it won't delay the process.

Thanks for your response!

It wont delay the process.

It just keeps getting better

I was digging thru all the old certificates and degrees etc for my wife and found she has used her maiden name at some places.

So now we have a more complex situation

Current name:

Jenny Bates

Other names used(That we forgot to mention in the application)

Jenny

Jenny Craig

Can we schedule an infopass appointment to get it corrected or still do it during the interview?

If we do it during the interview, then we risk some delays due to the additional name check that they may order

Not sure if something like this can be corrected with an infopass appointment.

Any advice?

Thanks

Infopass can't help in this situation, as they dont have your case file there. Did she mention all these names in DS-230 application?

Not sure what is DS 230. I believe she did not mention them anywhere else.

What's the worst case scenario?

If She tell the IO about the missing names and they order new name checks causing some delay between the interview and the oath? That is no big deal.

Is there something worse we're looking at?

DS-230 was used when you guys were doing CR-1/IR-1 journey. The best I can share, she can tell IO about the names that she has used in the past and bring all necessary certificates. It shouldn't be a big deal, but it is better to do everything in proper way. Delay may happen or may not, because to verify the names in India is pretty hard.

Thank you iwaiting for your quick responses.

We came to the US on H1/H4 visas about 12 years ago and subsequently got our employment based Green card in 2007. Applying based on 5 year rule.

Anyway, We scheduled an Infopass appointment for her anyway. if it works, it works. She'll definitely inform the IO during the interview.

Thanks again!

Hello iwaiting,

We ended up canceling the Infopass appointment and decided to deal with it during the interview.

Had our interviews yesterday and we both passed.

Mine was straight forward, so no issues.

My wife told her IO about the other names.

He took some notes and said it was ok because her name before marriage was only her first name(same as current first name)

and the only place she had used her full maiden name was our daughter's birth certificate where they make you put the maiden name of the mother.

other than that everything had her current full name.

So all is well. we passed and took oath the same day (2/27)

Now DS-11 application for passport has the same question on Other names used :)
