Gun buy back turns into gun show

They should be more like California. If you show up at a buy back here, and try to buy guns, the police will still check all the serial numbers, and you run the risk that one of the weapons you just bought, will end up putting you in jail, for a variety of reasons. Good example right there why all transfers of firearms should be recorded and background checked, for both the buyer, and the seller.

Can you explain further why the serial will put you in jail from a firearm just purchased assuming it was purchased legally?

All firearms purchases and transfers, including private party transactions and sales at gun shows, must be made through a licensed dealer under the Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) process.

Then you will be relieved to know that the S&W .38 Safety Hammerless (4th change) I bought for $50 in the buy-back line was NOT purchased in California. This revolver is also known as the "Lemon Squeezer" and is a classic pocket revolver. Made from 1880 until 1940. The great thing about these is you can drop them in your pocket and they are perfectly safe to carry, requiring a long double action pull to fire. Being hammerless, they can even be fired from inside your pocket! Practical in cold climates. Hell on coat pockets though! I also have a modern versiom, the M640 stainless Centennial.

I have a question. Unless the people buying the guns originally sold them to you...how is it a "buy back"? Who cares? Better place for bargains than a gun show. Problem with guns shows is people KNOW what their guns are worth and other collectors bid them up. When the "other bid" is $50 and the seller is a little old lady whose husband died 9 years ago and left the thing in his sock drawer...Hooooooooooo Boy!

I also picked up an early Colt Detective Special for $75 in another buy back line. I am not a Colt colector though, so I ended up swapping it at a gun show for another S&W for my collection. Trading stock is always good to have.

We should have more buy-backs.

Good thing most of us live in FREE states

Coming to a state near you! Congress will close the gunshow/private party transfer loophole.

I doubt it, and there IS NO gun show loophole, there IS a private party loophole ifyou call it that. Licensed dealers ALWAYS have to do background checks, gun show or not. Private parties do not. Gun shows create a concentration of private parties.

The problem with "closing the loophole" is that there IS NO loophole to close. Federal law already requires dealers to do this anywhere. I could see the remote possibility of not allowing private parties to sell firearms at a gun show.

The people that actually make the laws are not ignorant of the fact that the law requiring background checks already exists. It exists for dealers under the interstate commerce clause. The Feds actually have no jurisdiction to define what happens between two private parties within a state. That's a state issue.

I seriously doubt there will be any change in this regard because there is nothing TO change.Ignorant people spouting off about a "loophole" does not a loophole create.

Meanwhile, I wonder if I can get some funds to do a gun buy back myself! Any fellow colectors out there what to chip in a few thousand $$$ and stage a buy back?

You should have plenty of money and time now that you're living off the government like planned, right? Shouldn't be a problem now that you're living the dream. Your plan was so detailed, there's no way you didn't go through with it.

Dear Natty,

All stinger missile launchers, in fact all missile launchers, are by definition 'non-functional' so why don't you take a moment and then go FY?

Dear Natty,

nonfunctional by definition is ... not performing or able to perform its regular function;

nonfunctional means the part ... the tube ... does not function as intended. it is inoperable.

meaning ... parts of the tube launch mechanism are missing or have been rendered inoperable (broken). the missile doesn't fire all by itself.

you stated apparently functional ... many differing sources stated nonfunctional.

Apparently functional but without the projectile to really be useful in home invasion defense. Also it was a modern weapon not WW2 surplus. They are tracking to see if it came from Joint Base Louis-McCord.

you stated "apparently functional"

here is one of many links to discredit your "apparently functional" ...

from the linked article:

"Seattle police worked with Army officials Monday to track down the history of a nonfunctional missile launcher ...."

Missile launchers without missiles are non-functional. I didn't inspect this missile launcher but since it didn't come with a missile it was clearly non-functional. Pretty obvious really except for my poorly worded description.
