Okay, so I had an interview with my local immigration office in regards to my I-130 petitions for my wife and step-daughter on December 17. At the conclusion of the interview, the officer said "I see no reason why your petitions won't be approved, you should hear in 2 weeks." So, here it is 6 weeks later with no word from them, so I call USCIS. They tell me my petitions were approved on December 18 and the information was sent to the NVC. So, I call the NVC and they say they received my approved petitions on January 14, but the information is not in their computers yet (takes 10 - 20 days). So, I will call back sometime next week. My question is, exactly what do I ask them when I call back, and is there anything I should be doing now or thinking about doing? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Congrats on getting to NVC!

Go here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/406819-nvc-filers-january-2013/ and read all the information in the fist two posts, as well as opening any links that pertain to you and reading the guides. It's kind of overwhelming at fist but you'll get it! And everyone in that thread is super helpful in case you have any questions.

Update:

Called NVC today and received case #'s for wife and stepdaughter. Was asked for email address of myself and the wife, and gave them. Was told that it would take 10 - 20 business days before emails would be sent out to us (seems like everything takes them 10 - 20 days). Is there anything I could or should do until the emails go out to us? Thanks.

Read the shortcuts and guides.

Since you have the case number, you can start moving.

I've read the shortcuts and guides. I'm hoping that someone can give me some first-hand experience as to what they did personally.

prep the civil docs, get original signature on ds-230, prep the ds-3032 email.

and that's about it .

whilst yer waiting, check on the nvc online oprtal till you can actually see stuff.

or just wait till the aos fee bill and ds-3032 shows up in yer email inbox.

or reread the faq section in the january or february thread, as I'm being repetitive here.

or - since you want detailed info from someone that's done it before -

read a monthly NVC thread - I highly recommend November 2012 and December 2012.

Read it all the way through, taking copious notes, pen to paper,

then report back what you've learned, aye?

Thanks, Darnell.

Quick question regarding the documents that need to be submitted with the DS-230 (See below). Where it says "Original/certified copy", does that mean both or either or? I am assuming that a copy of the original along with a copy of the certified translation of the original is what is needed? Also, the Original police certificate does not state "certified copy". Can I send a copy of the original along with a copy of the certified translation of the original for that?

Two passport-style photographs (2X2 inches) of the beneficiary. (Write down NVC Case# and beneficiary’s full name and date of birth on the back side of both photographs lightly)

Completed and signed form DS-230 Part I by the beneficiary

Completed and unsigned form DS-230 Part II by the beneficiary

Photocopy of the beneficiary's passport biographic data page

Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate

Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate

Original police certificate(s) of the beneficiary

Original/certified copy of military record, if applicable

Original/certified copy of divorce decree, death certificate, etc. of previous marriage, if applicable

Thanks in advance for your reply.

No, you need to send the original or a copy certified by the issuing agency. Meaning a copy of the birth certificate stamped/certified by the birth registrar, same for the marriage certificate. The police certificate should be original as there's no reason to keep it since you're getting it for immigration purposes anyway.

Translations don't need to be certified, just a statement attached and signed by the person translating that they are capable of translating that language. Like this: http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations

OK, so you're saying that these original documents I send in with the DS-230 end up being sent to the U.S. Embassy and are available for the interview, and the beneficiary won't need to bring them for the interview?
