Hi everyone!

Here are some good news, we got married just last week and got the copies of our marriage right yesterday!! Yahooo!very happy! However the wedding itself as a big ceremony gonna happen in February.

Our situation is that we want to do the adjustment of status as soon as possible because I need to go back to Russia in the end of March to my mom because of her health condition. Do not wanna be too late on that. So now we filled all the papers, but it seems before applying for the adjustment, I still need to change the social securuty card. I got one when I was on a J1 visa just for a seasonal work, but now we are married and need to change the last name there. Our local office is located in Houston. If to mail the ss5 form and proof documents, it will take up to two weeks just to change some information. Is it possible to do this process faster if we just go to this office by our own? Or I was thinking, is it possible to apply for adjustment of status without this social security step...or somehow to ask USCIS to proceed first the doc that will allow to go outside of the USA and gives permission to go back and then will work on the adjustment of status..so you see very confused and do not know the answers. Was on a line for 20 minutes to talk to social security toll on the phone, but was not successful, too much waiting.

Maube here someone can gve a good advice? Thank you guys

You do not need to change your name on your SSN before applying for AOS. Fill out all the AOS forms in your married name so your EAD/AP and green card will come with your new married name. The copy of your certified marriage certificate you include with the AOS paperwork is the only legal name change document you need. You will use the marriage certificate to change your name at the SSA but does not have to happen before filing for AOS.

You dont need a social security card in your married name to file for AOS

and if I were you, once you receive NOA1s, set up an Info Pass where you can explain the situation (you might need some proof of your mother health conditions). They should be able to expedite your EAD/AP.
