Well slap me upside the head. We are on the same side of the argument on this one.

That's because sometimes you take sensible positions that make sense. Might just be that you have one of those 'blind hen and corn' moments going on. Anyway, how does it feel to be on the right side of the debate once? :jest:

And then those ten million suddenly legal citizens will all go out and buy guns.

They have those already.

More like they will buy car insurance. ;)

Because then, if they are stopped, they will be fined, get points on their (real) license and be threatened with actual legal sanction.

My in-laws will be happy. Now the wife's two undocumented brothers can bring the parents over, since we (I) already said we are not going to do it. If this is a replay of the Reagan amnesty, then expect this to result in anywhere from 20 to 30 million new citizens over the next 10 years.

Yes, but how much will that cost to find that out? Judge shopping is big business in the Federal courts, I here.

Yep. And I think we both know the people able to go on a spending spree ain't on VJ. One of the big issues to overcome would be that it would have to be the beneficiary to bring the suit, and that would have to be within the statute of limitations. I don't know what that is offhand, but my guess is probably 2 years from issuance. I would think that most family based visa beneficiaries would be unwilling to stick their heads above the parapet before ROC to pursue this.

If someone had money to burn in this Quixotic business, my guess is an E2 or other investor visa.

It's sad because this will be the end of this wave of illegal immigrants and the beginning of the next wave. Thus far, these waves have only gotten bigger and I don't see that changing. They will not enforce employment eligibility in any meaningful way and thus the economic magnet will be as strong following the amnesty as it is now. If we could once and for all make sure that employers that employ those not eligible to work are fined and taxed out of business, this might work. But that is NOT going to happen.

100% agree.

Outrage by the tea-party types might still derail this. The more outspoken on this they are the more they hand future electoral success to democrats. Meanwhile, the pro-business lobbyists who actually have the influence on what happens in this country will continue to block action on what would easily solve the problem, specifically, a serious crackdown on the employers who benefit from hiring illegals!

Every legal immigrant in this country should be outraged over this proposal as should everyone here at VJ. Why should the law breakers get special privileges while those who legally immigrate get cornholed with no lube? No wonder the country is in a nose dive.

Yep. I can't believe that anyone that went through this process would be in favor of this proposal.

The problem is the "system". And neither party really wants to fix it beyond the parts that benefit them. Maybe the Dems do it for the votes while the Republicans do it to support their business interests. None of them want to make E-Verify mandatory along with penalizing American businesses which violated the law. The problem would cure itself in short order. No jobs, no car insurance, no drivers license. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, just go directly home. Let the unemployed Americans and those able bodies who are collecting Welfare do the jobs the illegals currently do. Make it mandatory in order to receive public assistance.
