Very sorry to say that there is a very big probability that you won't make it for that wedding date. When you do make it here are you going to be in Indianapolis? If so, welcome to the area.

We wanted a wedding in September but didn't make any plans since I had to finish school in Colombia and the k1 could take longer so we set a date right after I had visa in hands and plane tickets! It was november 10, so two months after we wanted. it's better not making plans now, you make fixed plans when things actually can happen. You might be lucky and have the i129f approved in 4 months like us or 6, 7, 8 months like others. Wait and don't set a date yet until you are actually coming!

Good luck on your journey!

Hi guys

I am pretty new to visa journey, but my fiancee and I are in the process of applying for a K1 visa to bring me down to the USA (from Calgary, Alberta, Canada).

We have sent in the paperwork, etc, and received an NOA1. We have set the wedding for August 31st, 2013.

The big question is will we have enough time for this wedding date to work? I just filled out the timeline today, and it is predicting our 129F may be adjudicated between June 22, 2013 and July 30, 2013*.

Is this a pretty good estimate? Or are these playing on the safe side of things?

If you have been in this situation before, please let me know how things turned out!

Thanks,

Mark

IF everything works out perfectly, you could probably swing it. That would mean no RFEs, and that Vermont, or California processing centre was working within a good time frame. To give you some perspective, my fiance and I had an NOA1 date of July 12th of last year. (We sent our application in on July 9). We got our approval on Dec. 31, 2012. My interview is on February 14 of this year and I'm planning to cross the border on March. 31. That's about 8 months and so far no hiccups (yet). We're planning a small courthouse wedding for April 5. Nothing is guaranteed though. So if I were you, I wouldn't plan anything that I couldn't cancel and make alternate arrangements.

****************
July 09, 2012 - Sent in application for I-129f petition for K1 Visa
Dec. 31, 2012 - NOA2
Feb. 23, 2013 - Visa received

April 12, 2013 - Wedding! (41213 prime!)

May 02, 2013 - Sent off AOS, EAD, AP package

May 04, 2013 - Package arrived at Chicago lockbox

May 22, 2013 - Early walk in Biometrics, Alexandria VA

June 03, 2013 - RFE for AOS

June 17, 2013 - RFE response received

July 05, 2013 - EAD and AP approved

July 10, 2013 - EAD card production

Hi! It may or may not be ok. For my case, the interview is set for Feb 14, exactly 8 months from NOA1...Some have even waited longer. So I would suggest that you make overall plans for the wedding (such as colors, bmaids, dresses, type of music, type of food, guests) but not make any set plans such as pay deposits. For K1s a small wedding is recommended since you can't control the processing times.

To see a more detailed journey schedule, please see the About Me page and my Timeline.

Our K1 Process

June 7, 2012 -- Sent I-129F to June 9, 2013 -- Religious & Civil Wedding Ceremony in CT

FROM I-129f NOA1 to VISA APPROVAL: Exactly 8 months! No RFEs

Our AOS Process

July 16, 2013 -- Mailed AOS, EAD, and AP Paperwork to December 21, 2013 -- Received GC Card in the Mail!

FROM NOA1 to GREEN CARD in Hand: Exactly 4 months 27 days! No Interview or RFEs.

Our ROC Process

September 21, 2015 -- Mailed ROC Paperwork to August 6, 2016 -- Received Card in the Mail!

FROM NOA1 to GREEN CARD in Hand: Exactly 10 months 10 days! No Interview or RFEs.

Our {His} N-400 Process

That would be for NOA2, add 7 days of NVC, 5 days of transit, and 80-100 days in MTL if that is your embassy.

My guess would be no.

I agree it's too early to set the date with only the NOA1 but think it's overkill to wait until you have the visa in hand (unless you have a difficult case, in that case you wait until the US Embassy tells you you're approved - you can usually use your common sense to know whether or not you have one).

We started firming up the details of our wedding (e.g. setting the month and day, getting my dress sewn, buying wedding favors, etc.) when we got the NOA2 and cementing them on the day of my visa interview approval (e.g. mailing checks, giving our friends the go signal to get airplane tickets since we got the approval, getting invitations printed, etc.).

There are a TON of non-visa-dependent wedding-related things to do while you wait, like picking the bridal entourage, creating a guest list, looking for photographers, planning the honeymoon (my fiance personally loves this one...) laughing.gif

I hope it's not to late and you didn't make any deposits yet! If you've told anyone, you can just paddle back and tell them as early as now that the date is back to tentative status so they don't book flights and hotels. Good luck!

I am (usually) the beneficiary.

You MIGHT get your NOA2 in that time but I seriously doubt you'll be POE'd by then. This quote:

"Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between June 22, 2013 and July 30, 2013*"

Means you might get your NOA2 by then. After that, you go to NVC for maybe a couple weeks. Then packet three and four which can take up to another month. Not sure if you'll go to Montreal or Vancover embassy for an interview. We went to Montreal and our initial interview date was 4 months from acceptance of packet 4. We were able to keep an eye out for openings and found a date a little over a month from packet 4. That being said, our entire process was 10 months I believe.

That would be for NOA2, add 7 days of NVC, 5 days of transit, and 80-100 days in MTL if that is your embassy.

My guess would be no.

Sorry, I missed this, didn't mean to repeat what you just said.
