Canadian moving to the USA

Hey everyone, I am hoping that I can get some responses hearing from people who have moved to the USA and can give me some ideas about moving my stuff.

I have a decent amount of stuff (a 2 bedroom house worth of stuff) to move.

We are unsure if we should hire a moving company or use a uhaul, etc. Its a 15 hour drive to where I am moving to. Should I uhaul it myself? has that been a problem for people?

Are moving companies very expensive? Is it less hassle?

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I UHauled it from Northern Alberta to Florida. No problems at all. Was a lot cheaper than any moving companies, too. If you are planning on moving your posue before you get your immigration visa, you need to make sure you bring proof of ties (NOA1, Employment Verification Letter (with recent pay stubs and a statement from your employer that you're expected to return after your visit to the US), Rental Agreement or Title to Home, bring only enough clothes for the trip, return airline ticket, etc.) If you're moving after receipt of your immigrant visa, then no worries. Just show up at the border with your stuff.

Had I done it all over, I would have had movers help me load the UHaul. But other than this part, no regrets. If you're strong enough to load all of your stuff with no help, then you should be good with just a UHaul.

I hired a moving company, they told me the cost and said ok then when they arrived they said they had to changed trucks because the one they were using was too big, then they charged me 2500 more for a total of 6000. I say if you can do it yourself. the money would have been better spent elsewhere in this process.

I think Uhaul seems like the best option. Looking at their website they seem pretty reasonable too.
