Name Correction

So everything was spelled correctly when I filled out the paperwork. In all the letters I received from the USCIS I can't actually tell if the name is spelled wrong, because they just use the first letter of the middle name. It wasn't until I received a letter on Nov 20 that I realized the middle name was spelled incorrectly. I called up the USCIS and had them correct this. At the time when I called and had the USCIS correct this, I didn't realize that the National Visa center who sent me the letter with the wrong spelling wasn't the same part of the government as the USCIS, so I thought I had taken care of it. Got a letter later from the USCIS saying there was nothing wrong with the spelling of the name, I wrote it off figuring perhaps the letter was just a typo.

Flash forward to the weekend, a letter comes from the US Embassy in Manila with the middle name spelled wrong still. This is where I start calling them up and trying to correct it (You'd think if it was there mistake they could just easily fix their error). This is also where I learn that the state department and the uscis apparently don't communicate with each other after the USCIS hands off the petition to the state department.

Ended up calling up the embassy in manila where I was directed to a website where the information on correcting the name was given. On a quick side note, the K1 visa is considered non immmigrant, but apparently the immigrant side handles it in the manila embassy, something they could do a better job of indicating on their phone prompts.

So moving on, I have the fax number, and was going to have my fiance pay the application fees, but told her to wait, I wanted to call the embassy again and find out, should I correct the spelling of her name before I pay the fees. So I called them again and this time the girl on the phone indicated that my fiance could just bring in all her documents (birth certificate, etc) to the interview and they'd correct the spelling of the name there.

So a couple questions. Is it ok to wait till she's at the interview for them to correct the spelling of the middle name? If not, is it ok to pay the fee now or should I wait till the name is corrected? My concern is that if I pay the fee then they correct the name, somehow the fee would get lost or take more time to be connected to the right case, even if I included the appropriate case information.

And one more question, not related to the name correction but related to the visa. How often is it that the person in the Philippines does not receive packet 3 or that it takes a long time? I got the letter here in the US from the embassy on Saturday and it's dated Dec 4, she has not yet received it.

Chinook and I were K-1'ers too. We are still waiting for the Embassy to send us the letter which tells Chinook that she's eligible to schedule an interview and gives instructions on how to prepare for the interview (you can call it packet 3 if you prefer). After waiting almost four years for that letter, you can imagine how blue our faces are getting from holding our breath that long! :jest:

Embassy letter for K-1'ers

As for the name correction, I wouldn't worry about it. You spelled it correctly on your I-129F and the Embassy will know it because they will have your I-129F sitting right there in front of them. They'll have her G-325a too. The NVC screwed up, not you.

If I were in your shoes, I would go ahead and pay the visa application fee at BPI and schedule an interview. It's time to roll.
