Compton is a pimple on the a$$ of L.A. county. It's 10 square miles for christ sakes. It's not like it's all by itself somewhere. I don't care how many laws they pass or gun buy-back programs they have IN Compton, there's too many outside influences. There's parks in L.A. county that are larger than Compton.

It's almost like saying we had a gun buy-back program in the West Village and crime went down, while ignoring the East village, Chelsea, and Tribeca.

The whole argument is silly.

After seeing the success of the gun buy-back program in Compton, it was expanded to all of LA county.

That's my point. How can you possibly claim that a gun buy-back program had anything to do with a lower crime rate in such a small place surrounded by L.A. county?

Do you honestly think a gun buy-back program would work in a place like Chicago?

If it's such a ####### spot, I'd venture to say that most of the county population would probably make an effort not to hit those streets. Judging from the less desirable areas around here, they're pretty contained. Then again, LAPD seems to think that getting these guns off the streets helped improve the picture but what would they know about law enforcement?

Would it work in Chicago? Not by itself. It would take more effort, better policing, prevention, etc. There usually isn't a single measure that heals all ills.

Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet they have a high rate of gun violence. Some claim that this is due to guns coming from other places. How is it that Compton (10 square miles) does not have this issue being such a small place?

I don't see how people can have it both ways.

I would suggest there are many reasons the crime rate has fallen in Compton. Gun buy-backs would be at the bottom of list. It just doesn't make logical sense.

As far as what the LAPD thinks, that's humorous. If I was a cop, I would want all guns off the streets, legal and illegal. That way only I and my fellow officers would have guns.

There are fewer guns in Compton in 2011 than there were in 2005 and there is less crime. It happened in Compton same as it did in NYC, for example. I see a little pattern developing - maybe because I want to see it. But I surely see the gun nut theory shot to pieces that more safety is accomplished by increasing the number of guns. Safety can be achieved by reducing the number of guns. And in a country where we already have more guns than people, decreasing the number of guns would appear the way to go.

You assume there are fewer guns. You don't know that. A lot of times in gun buy backs they get grandpa's old 16 gauge, the old 32 in the closet. Those thing never take large numbers of guns people are using off the streets. Who is going to go turn in a glock 22 when you can pawn it for way more money. Liberal stupidity
