Does anyone have any experience and know the average duration of waiting time for an anulment from the Philippines?

From what I understood it was meant to be a 1-2 year process.

I ask because the one in question is now going on 4+ years.

Over a year ago the anulment, which was not contested by the husband, was granted but it has since gone to appeal, and the time to submit the appeal by the Solicitor General has now passed.

The information now being given by the Attorney, who has been fully paid for a couple of years now, is the Solicitor General can ask for an extension to submit the appeal, and the Solicitor General can ask for any period of length for this extension.

The Court of Appeal itself has been contacted, and they have not given details of times either, but suggest we call back in later weeks.

Is this normal?

Please note that I am asking on behalf of a friend, so it is not my anulment in question.

The uncertainty of duration remaining after such a long period is causing some stress.

Thank you.

Off topic, but why does Philippines not allow divorce?

The Catholic Church is very powerful in this predominantly Catholic country. The Church does not like civil divorces. Politicians enjoy the support of the powerful Church do not want to displease their powerful friends in the Church, so they follow the Church's teaching against divorce. That's why the politicians do not allow civil divorces. If the politicians allwed civil divorces, their friends in the Church would turn against them and have their followers not to support these politicians. These politics would soon find themselves without jobs when the Church followers listens to their priests and vote these politicians out of office.

That's why there are no divorces in the Philippines.

It should be noted that there are times that an annulment will not be granted at all despite hundreds of thousands of pesos and years of your life being spent in court.

The Philippines is the last country in the world outside of Vatican City where divorce is illegal. Marriage is constitutionally protected. While aaron2020 is being honest he is missing the fact that the fundamental structure of Philippine law (their Constitution) states marriage is 'an inviolable social institution, is the foundation of the family and shall be protected by the State.' To legalize divorce would require changing the Constitution.

That is the more convincing and logical argument. Thanks

My annulment (I am the respondent) is taking forever. It started in mid-2009, already got the Court Decission in July 2011 and Entry of Judgement for Partition/Liquidation in January 2012. Finality Decree won't come out unless the petitioner complies with the partition order. I can only guess the petitioner has a change of heart of that he runs out of money to comply with the partition. Either way, I just want out. Takes so long and it is extremely stressful. Since mine is "void ab initio", I want to re-start the clock and be the petitioner this time. Can anyone recommend any reliable and fast lawyer that won't charge me arm and a leg? I heard in the provinces they are faster than in Manila. Appreciate anyone's recommendation.
