This week has been a pretty emotional week for me. I have begun to hear from others that my mom might be beginning stages of memory loss. I have noticed it too. I'm not sure how that will translate in medical terms (dementia...Alzheimer's), and it's early, but upsetting especially because this is the exact time (2 years ago) that the doctors told me my dad had terminal cancer.

As a comfort to me I decided to go through my K-1 application. I loved putting it together in June and July to get it ready for the USCIS, so I knew going through it would be a great way for me to not only reflect on my wonderful relationship with my fiance, but it would also get my mind off the sadness of the week. Also, it should be soon that we hear something. Well, I found some correspondence that I mailed which will most likely raise concerns about my fiance and me. It is in the terms of endearment I use with him. While we are in no way married, occasionally I will tell him things like, "Well, your silly wife..." and explain what I did. Both of us know that I call myself that in jest. When we are in person, he'll usually roll his eyes and laugh at me. I have a strong feeling that I put the artifacts in my packet because I wanted the people to feel the strength of our relationship and figured since I was applying for an I-129F petition, they'd recognize I wasn't really married. Silly me, right???

To clarify, I was probably overkill on the amount of correspondence I sent. However, tonight I found my term of endearment three times in my papers. I do mention him as my fiance once, but I imagine that is not what they will see.

Who knows if they will accept my petition? And, if they do, how will the Egyptian consulate react to my artifacts? Sadly, my fiance will be the one who has to deal with my mistake. He'll already have the nervousness of going in for an interview. And now, I've set him up. I will be talking to him tomorrow when he awakes, but I'm just really sad right now. I hope I haven't killed our chances.

In your opinions, what should I do? Is there a way to clarify and make this right? I would love to think they wouldn't notice it, but somehow I don't think that will happen.

No worries...I think :) My husband regularly called me "his cute little wife" (his nickname for me) in our emails and texts while we were engaged. I asked our lawyer the same question, worried that it would be a problem or red flag since we weren't married yet of course. She told me not to worry...And our K-1 went through without a hitch. Now, granted that was in Morocco, and I have no clue if they read everything or how it all works - but we were okay. I would say, try not to worry too much :)

Theres no way to withdraw something you sent, once you sent it, thats it. So you just have to deal with it.

So 3 times in your correspondence you called yourself his wife- okay. Well, you also say you sent overkill of evidence- so lets try to give this some perspective. Would you say youre referred to as his wife in 5% of the evidence? 10%? 50%? less then 1%? Do you have other evidence of a marriage occurring? A ceremony that could be misconstrued as a wedding? An elaborate engagement party? A ceremony that was blessed by a religious person? Did you exchange rings? Are there pictures of you wearing said matching rings?

Usually when people are denied because they are accused or rather suspected of being married, its a cultural thing. They did something that that embassy considers made them married in that culture, or the couple submitted evidence that was questionable if they were married. A few mentions of the word wife- IMO isnt enough.

They may ask him an additional question, like- are you sure you are not married, shes already saying shes your wife (if they see it and wish to question him about it). Once he assures them that yes, you two are not married yet, youre just eager to be his wife and a bit nutty ( :bonk: ), that will be it. With out anything else that they can point to and say, we dont believe it, theres no reason why they would doubt youre not two single people and hes eligible for the visa.

Your petition is not going to be returned to you. If it was filled out properly and you attached a check, it will be accepted.

That makes me feel a bit better. I just counted, and I might be ashamed to say...28 pages double sided with correspondence dating back to 2009. In all that, it was mentioned in three sentences. Therefore, the percentage isn't too high (whew).

We have no evidence that shows us in any sort of marriage relationship. We have a picture of us at his friend's engagement party, but it is obvious we are not the ones being celebrated.

Yes, I am indeed nutty. He tells me all the time that I am just like my "kids" (I'm an elementary school teacher), but he also readily admits his appreciation for my playful and crazy nature. It isn't necessarily common in his family or culture.

I appreciate you thinking it through with me. I just have felt a bit vulnerable this week.

Hello,

I have to preface my statement by saying that I know nothing about anything but just my idea.. I think that they go through so many applications and evidence that they surely can determine what you are saying is your term of endearment and nothing suspicious. It's probably evident how much emotion you have between you two and if anything it might help you instead of hurt you. I think it's good that you included that information. I would :)

Secondly, very sorry about your mom. I hope everything will be fine.

Thanks Erica,

I appreciate all your kind words and thoughts. I try not to worry too much about things, but sometimes that worry gets the better of me! I am much more calm now, and my fiance has been wonderful. I just enjoy him more and more every day. I guess instead of complaining or worrying about my NOA2, I'm just going to sit back, relax, and enjoy. Every day I see as an extra day I have to truly know and continue to grow that love I have for my fiance.

My fun story of the day: After school I tutor kids. The kids I currently tutor have very low IQs, but I love them just the same. Anyway, I had just received a Shutterfly book I created that details my love story. On the cover I put 4 pictures of my fiance and me. One of the girls looked at the cover of the book and said, "You sure have a lot of boyfriends." I questioned, "Student...what are you talking about?" She replied, "Well look...here you're with this guy...and this guy...and this guy...and this guy." Smiling I said, "Well, he's the same guy--just in different outfits." With a look of surprised amazement she said, "Oh...wow. (opening the book) And, this is the same guy too?" "Yes. Yes it is."

I called my fiance as soon as I arrived home. I explained that before he could tell me anything, I had a confession. Though he hadn't seen my book (which was mailed to him a week or two ago), he will get the chance to see my 4 boyfriends on the cover. I needed him to be prepared to see this guy...and this guy...and this guy...and this guy...Needless to say he was so amused that the girl could not tell he was the same exact person in each picture! He plans on taking the book to his interview, so now I guess I should worry they can tell the men on the front are all the same!!! :)

It's just a blessing to me that there are people--even little girls who struggle to identify the same guy in side by side pictures--who put a smile on my face. It is surely what we all need at this time. Thanks for your warm thoughts on my mom. I have paperwork to fill out for her to see a kidney specialist. Maybe all the forgetfulness will be due to the pain she's been having. Either way I'll continue to look for those little moments of joy!
