Canadian address after moving to States on k1 visa

I'm currently just renting a room in a house. I had switched all papers (drivers license, health card, government) to this address. I had no choice since I'd moved provinces and couldn't use my parents address anymore. The lady from whom I'm renting is moving away in July, by which time I should already have moved away.

My questions is, what do I do about the address on legal documents mentioned above? If the lady I rent from was still living there, I could have just asked her if it was ok, but with a new tenant later coming on, I'm not sure what to do about my address. Should I change it to a friends address before leaving? (a big pain because of needing to notify everything of the change). Do I leave it here and just notify the postal service and the apartment block landlord? Do I need to notify the government?

I'm really unsure what to do to keep it legal and to make sure I don't lose any important mail. Thanks everyone, and I sure hope someone has had this issue (or similar) to help me out.

P.S. Changing address to parents isn't an option, again, because of the whole province change.

Info to help answer: living in Quebec, Canada.

Yeah, but I'm wondering whether I can really change my address to a US address before I even cross on a Fiancee Visa. Somehow I think that would invalidate my health card and drivers license.

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the Canada regional subforum -- topic requires country-specific information & insights. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

True. Some address changes are definitely for after you POE just in case the date changes due to unforeseen circumstances.

You change your health card after POE with date of POE as when you left Canada. You will need interim health coverage for the period after POE up until you can get on your husband’s plan. Travel insurance isn’t what you are looking for. There are threads here in the Canada forum with some recommendations if I remember right.

As for your driver’s licence I would wait until you get a driver’s licence from whatever state you are moving to. Some states make things difficult on immigrants especially fiancé visas. You will need to look at paperwork requirements etc of the state you are moving to on their DMV site.

If you are importing your car, you can normally mail back your plate and receive a credit from the province for any time remaining on your plate once you get a new one. Check on the Quebec registries site for methods there & if it’s possible.

I'm not sure if I did this correctly but I phoned the BC government health care ahead of time to let them know the date I was crossing and gave them my new address to be effective AFTER that date.

It ended up (due to unforeseen circumstances like mentioned) being a POE a day later than I told them. I am not sure if this matters for forms in the future but I am planning to list my date I am no longer a resident as the date I POEd, instead of the day earlier I was planning to.

So long story short, I'd wait till after you POE just to be safe!
