I don't think that the Chicken Pox would be an issue as he would be over it by the time he gets to the interview. Once you've had it, you're immune to it which is why part of the medical requires either a vaccination against it (kids these days get that) or a verbal declaration of having had it.

I would be more concerned about the Malaria since it is a communicable disease as well. I only say I would be more concerned because I don't know enough about it and how long you are contagious for with that. I would contact the medical office where his medical would take place and ask them. They don't know WHO you are at this point, just an inquiry. I have called the medical office where ours will take place a number of times to ask questions and they've always been very helpful.

ETA: have you been on this section of the site? http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3739.html

You can choose the consulate and find out more about the requirements there.

Not everyone is immune, you can get them again but as an adult they tend to present as shingles. http://www.vaccineinformation.org/varicel/qandadis.asp

But agree about Malaria. He most likely won't be able to be approved until he's better.

Hi Dwheels, i dont think there will be a problem as he will get well before then. What he needs now is proper treatment and malaria is not a communicable disease it is gotten from mosquito bites, what he should do is get to see a good doctor and take his drugs according to prescription and i am sure he will be fine. He should have another test to ascertain the malaria has left his system thereafter. I had Chickenpox when i was 16. All he needs to do is get proper treatment and like someone said earlier he will be immuned for life, the spots from the chicken pox wont disappear immediately, depending on how serious it is, it sometimes takes up to 3 or 4 months if its the serious type for it to fade away but when once he gets treatment spots or no spots he will be fine. Do not worry. By the stripes of Jesus he is healed.I wish u two the very best.

With God all things are possible!

just tell him to see a doctor again if anything seems strange.

adult chickenpox is more dangerous than childhood.

Perhaps he can take a letter from his physician (if seeing one) saying he is/has been treated for the malaria. Not much treatment can be given now for the chickenpox, except time and maybe something to relive the itching.

Malaria IS a communicable disease. It moves around via mosquitoes but that is just an indirect transmission. It is still considered communicable.

But either way, the best answer is going to come from the doctor who does the medical in your husband's location.

Malaria IS a communicable disease. It moves around via mosquitoes but that is just an indirect transmission. It is still considered communicable.

You need the right kind of mosquitoes to transmit it though. The mosquito factor is actually a big reason why we don't have malaria in the US anymore. The mosquitoes that transmit it usually bite around midnight, and everyone is usually inside well-sealed houses that they can't get into by then. People bring malaria back from vacations all the time but it very rarely spreads, and only generally close to airports. I doubt they'd bar people from coming into the US because of it.

I actually got malaria the non-traditional way once. I was a lab rat in a vaccine trial.

The things we do for science...
