The speed limit is (or should be) merely a suggestion, unless bored constables lurk.

I believe that these groups of drivers should be banned from the left lane: people with "handicapped" plates; anyone 5+ years older than a highway speed limit; vehicles with more than 4 tires; anyone in a Ford Econoline van; and anyone driving 54 mph in the right lane who decides to pass the car ahead that's going 53 mph, but the passing car doesn't speed up. Also, it should be illegal for anyone to drive slower than 100 mph within a 20-mile radius of any airport, si man.

Heh heh heh heh..

Effeciency in a nutshell, and at its finest.

I am the foreign spouse, I had to learn from scratch as I'd never driven before. We did a good bit of driving in an abandoned parking lot to start, and then in our quiet neighbourhood during the day. I also drove around with friends a couple of times, that really helped, as it gave me a different perspective on rules, different tips on driving culture, and frankly, I was more receptive to their criticism than when my husband corrected me :)

In our state, the theory test is multiple choice so it is easy. I was able to get a "rules of the road" booklet from the local DMV and studied that.

When it came to the driving test, the trooper was pleasantly surprised to not have a teenager for a change I think. Mind you, I was lucky in a way because the teen boy before me drove into a mailbox and was so frazzled, the trooper had to drive the damaged car back to the testing center, so as we walked out to my car, the trooper said to me: "Tell you what- don't kill either of us and I'll pass you!" :P

LOL! The last part is sooooo funny!!!!

You forgot people wearing hats! For some reason people that put a hat on while driving do the dumbest things. While teaching my wife to drive, I specifically told her to look out for people with hats on. She's noticed the same relationship, plus pointed out that Asians often can't drive very well. I don't know how many times she's looked at a car that just made a bonehead move, then said "yep, Asian" BTW my wife is Asian, but a safe driver, even it she always stays at the speed limit on the highways. First thing I taught her, was stay to the right!

Oh, absolutely to both, si man. When I lived in North Carolina in the 1980s and got stuck behind a man wearing a hat, I could forget about ever reaching my destination. In regard to your other observation, I wasn't going to say anything, but that's the sixth group to avoid. There's a large such population here, and they all seem to get on the roads during peak traffic and drive 25 mph (in 40- or 45-mph zones), chiefly in the left lane. Ufff, man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

My husband wears a hat/cap. You do have a valid point. He doesn't wear it when driving the mc and he actually drives better. Maybe I'll mention it to him.

And quickly hide from the oncoming bashing of my directional sense - or lack thereof - afterwards. :D
