They were significant once. I don't think that's the case anymore. The Soviet Union was significant once. Not so much anymore. Get the drift? Things change. Same happened to the NRA. They were significant once. They made sense once, too, taking reasonable positions. Now they're insane. And irrelevant in terms of their ability to move the needle in political races.

I know where the quote is coming from and I think it was fitting then. The NRA ain't no giant, though, regardless of how much the gun nuts wish the contrary. By and large, the NRA was rather ineffective with their political action arm in the 2012 cycle. They poured almost all their money into races that went the other way.
