Not sure if this is the right forum to discuss with but already saw same topic only that the OP was asking about PH and Indonesia.

How about Japan? I'm always subscribed to Skype's Japan 120 Minute call which $15.99 a month. But I always run out of minutes (120 min of course isn't enough in a month), For some reason, you cannot subscribe again with another 120 min within the month that it was consumed, I can avail 60 min though, but still it isn't enough (Skype is weird). With that, I needed to call my fiance (USC based in Japan) directly from my phone using IDD which very expensive!

If you have anything more in mind, please share.

Magic Jack , if you both have access to internet , Also you can use a google voice number and buy an OBI-100 router/modem for free long distance ( i'm not sure about Japan).

SoftBank sometimes offer very low rate for international call or if you know some Filipino store where you can buy international calling card 5,000 yen for 6 calling card (45-60) mins each is cheap too. If your fiancée has Internet then you can try viber which is better than Skype. Globe Philippines used to have Php.999 a month for international call an its unlimited too(I'm not sure if they still have it) I used to live in Atsugi Base.

Oh really? Coincedence happen everywhere haha oh well, have him check SoftBank if they still have that international unlimited calling and lot of Filipino store off base( Around Atsugi Base), if he work in atsugi base he prolly know parcheezi's restaurant she can ask someone there who sell calling card ( most people who work there are filipino ) and you can check globe Philippines too. Some Filipino who work in Atsugi commissary sell calling cards too where I usually get mine before I had the SoftBank deal.

I'm late to this thread, but let me second magic jack. It will work from the Philippines and Japan no problem. As long as you have high speed net access, you will have a USA phone number that can follow you to any PC, and is only $25 a year. Drawback is unlike a card, you can's call from any phone, but if you do most of your talking from home, it's great.
