Hi,

I became a naturalized citizen late last year(28 yrs old) and now am looking to get my parents a green card. My parents overstayed their visa back in 96 and have been here since as undocumented immigrants. Naturally, I will be getting a lawyer for all this, but before I do I figure I come here and post some questions that I have.

1. How long does the process usually take? And how long should it take a lawyer to get all the forms in?

2. What kind of forms will I/Lawyer be filling out for this process?

3. How much am I looking at as far application fees and lawyer fees for each person?

This is a guide for spouse inside the US but a parent, as an immediate relative, works in the same way. http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2 Obviously you'll have to read the instructions for parent-specific evidence required, but the list of forms there is correct.

It is $1490 per person.

A lawyer might not be needed if you can fill out forms yourself and your parents have not gotten in trouble in any way, paid their taxes, and never claimed to be US Citizens.

They will also need to prove that they entered legally.

If they have their I-94s, that will help a great deal.

They are not undocumented immigrants if they entered legally originally. They have simply overstayed.
