What would be the purpose of your travel to US?

Your chance of getting approved is very slim. You can try and apply with your parents. I have friends who have traveled to Australia and still got denied with a US tourist visa.

You are 23 yrs old, and Embassy may think that you may not have enough reason to be back to your home country. Alot of people go to United States, overstay there, and sometimes marry to USC and then AOS.

You can try to see if you have luck to get the visa! It wont hurt even you are denied.

Hi Rahul,

I am an Indian citizen living in New Zealand for the past 2.5 years. In 2008 when I was in India working for a BPO, I was able to obtain a 10 year multiple entry B1/B2 visa through my company. My company wanted to send me to New York for training purposes at a leading American firm.

Now from my own experience this is what I can tell you:

  • Even till today I am confused as to why I was given a 10 year visa. My actual trip was originally meant for only a 3 month visit. I would assume that since I was hired at a managerial level--perhaps my company intended to send me to the USA in the future as well. But some of my friends who applied along with me either were directly rejected or only given a 3 month visa.

Interestingly all the rejections were at the interviews at Chennai consulate.

  • I attended my interview at the US consulate in New Delhi and I was asked the following questions as far as I can remember---a) What is the purpose of your visit to the USA? How long do you intend to stay there? I gave very specific well rehearsed answers :) .

I really got the feeling that the decision to give me a B1/B2 visa was already made even before my interview at the consulate. I could be wrong but that is the feeling that I got. But even till today I am not quite sure as to why some of my colleagues got rejected who applied through the same company in which I was employed at the time.

  • As many people have mentioned before---I think you should provide super strong evidence as to your irrevocable ties to India and the reason why you want to visit the USA. Essentially you need to do everything to convince them that you are coming back to India again and that your visit to the US is precisely what the visa is meant for---"tourist/pleasure/vacation". There is no harm in also practising your answers at the interview. May be have a mock Q n A session. That is what I did and all the questions which were asked at the consulate--- were already practiced by me quite exhaustively before I attended my B1/B2 interview.

I wish you all the very best for your application.

Cheers.
