Hello everyone. I recently brought my wife here 4 months ago on a k1 visa from brasil. i live in the usa. we got married on the89th day that she was here. We now notice that her passport will expire in less than 3 months. we are going to go to the consulate in wasington d.c personally to renew her passport. we have not filed for a green card yet. What documents will we need to take to washngton to hve her passport renewed. She does not have her birth certificate or a copy. She supplied the original w/ her paperwork during her visa interview. Also can we go on any day we choose. How long can we expect the process to take and what is the process. Thanks a million.

your best way to find out is to review the embassy's website for what documents are needed.

here's the faq; http://www.consbrasdc.org/english/faq_passaportes.asp

Scroll down to the bottom of page for which papers are needed.

I understand about 25 percent of what's on the webpage so you'll have to fill in the rest. Probably a good idea to read all the questions there anyways.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)
