Bill To Set Limit For Driving While Stoned Has A Good Chance

January 22, 2013 11:54 PM

DENVER (CBS4) – A plan is in the works to set a limit for people driving while under the influence of marijuana, and this time lawmakers say they’ll get it done.

There’s a lot of pressure on lawmakers after legalizing pot. As the number of users grows, there is growing concern the number of people driving under the influence will as well. In 2011, the most recent data available, 13 percent of deadly crashes in Colorado involved pot.

Democrats and Republicans, defense attorneys and prosecutors are on board. While marijuana advocates insist five nanograms is an arbitrary limit, Waller says it could be lower.

“It is time to act. We need to do something to protect the citizens of Colorado, and that’s exactly what this driving under influence of marijuana does,” Waller said.

I didn't read the article that you linked. Also, I don't think you're using "the kenyan" in jest and I think it's very rude. However, I will comment that while I agree with the legalization of marijuana for personal, recreational use, I do believe that like alcohol, it should be regulated and you shouldn't drive under the influence of it.

I'm not a pot advocate: Just a few thoughts...

What's the percentage of deadly crashes in Colorado involving alcohol?

How many people smoke pot and and beat up their wives? besides me (just kidding) :innocent:

When was the last time you saw a headline "Man goes on deadly rampage after smoking pot"?

The other side:

How many times are people in Mexico killed over the alcohol trade?

How much taxes are collected from pot?

How are investors affected if alcohol is illegal?

In these arguments, the words Guns, Alcohol, drug, are interchangeable...

Summary....

If I open a store in Colorado called "Steve And Tiffany's Guns, medicinal pot, and liquors", I will be filthy stinkin rich...

OK I read the article. Seems to me the "field testing" is going to be difficult, until technology catches up to it. There are no regents that I'm aware of to administer on a person in the field. (which leads me back to my other post written by that Dr. Ewing guy about keeping the high tech graduates here).

Anyone live in colorado? How hard is it to get a license to open up a "Pot, Alcohol, and Guns" supermart...?

Potheads don't need to drive, since most of them don't have jobs, because they can't pass the piss test. Oh, yes, the courts have determined employers can discriminate against employees that use marijuana, even if it is legally prescribed, same as they can fire you for drinking on the job, or showing up with an obvious hangover, or still under the influence.

Are they going to make people blow into a water bong to test their level?

Do they drive while still under the influence of that particular drug, given the most pronounced effects lasts for hours, and the active ingredient stays in the body for days?

there have been multiple studies on this:

... The results to date of crash culpability studies have failed to demonstrate that drivers with cannabinoids in the blood are significantly more likely than drug-free drivers to be culpable in road crashes. … [in] cases in which THC was the only drug present were analyzed, the culpability ratio was found to be not significantly different from the no-drug group.”

Simple test:

Officer: "Do you know why you were pulled over?"

Suspect: "You pulled me over?"

Your source is suspect, I am just saying.
