While Democrats attempt to ban "military-style assault weapons" like the AR-15, a Rochester Institute of Technology student used that very gun to thwart home invaders and save his roommate’s life.

Christopher Boise heard noises in the basement of his apartment; when he went to investigate, he found two intruders. One of the men trained a gun on him. Boise screamed, which woke his roommate, Raymond, who grabbed his gun bag and took out his AR-15.

One invader opened Raymond’s door only to see the barrel of the gun.

"By the time I had it out and ready, one of the men came at my door, slowly opened it, saw that there was a barrel on the other side and from there backed out," Raymond said.

The men fled the apartment without taking anything. No shots were fired in the confrontation.

"I'm happy he saved my life. I was very thankful he had his (gun)," said Boise.

A few weeks ago, a 15-year old boy used his father’s AR-15 to stop two home invaders when he and his sister were home alone.

Could a regular pistol have done the job as well?

No.

Nature Boy feels the need to post every story he can find like this because he wants everyone to know how awesome guns are. Because everyone uses these guns for the good reasons, right? In a perfect world, maybe.

I gotta ask, when you make statements like this, are you actually serious and implying that that's how people think? Or are you trying to be funny?

Of course not! In fact, in many circles this guy is being laughed at for not having a loaded bazooka or a rocket launcher, as these would be far more appropriate for the occasion! Nobody uses AR-15 anymore!

I posted that because of all the people who call us Stupid Gun Nuts just because we don’t believe there should be a ban on AR-15’s. I don’t believe that the five hundred million dollar legislation that Obama pushed through will do anything to stop or even slow down the shootings in this country. It is just taking away rights from law abiding citizens. I don’t propose arming everyone as it is not my right to put a gun into the hands of people who don’t want them the same as it is not the right of others to take my gun rights away. I would suggest that we stop saying that these places are “Gun Free” and let the criminals at least have to weigh that people MAY be armed. I am not a Stupid Gun Nut just because I do not like useless and expensive legislation that does nothing.

What is anyone taking away from you? Will you not be allowed to own a gun to protect yourself? Or to go hunting? Is anyone stripping you of your right to keep and bear arms?

I am all for people having a gun in the home to protect themselves and their families. I'm all for people owning guns to hunt, that's just the way of life for a lot of people. But why can't those people HAVE their guns, and yet the type and quantity of guns be a bit more regulated? Why can't they go through a more extensive background check to obtain the weapons they want?

Guns are already regulated. I can’t just go out and buy a full auto weapon. I can however at this time buy an AR-15. The government and others are trying to now say that I am no longer responsible enough to own the gun that was legal when I bought it. New York is going further and saying that people in New York cannot own magazines that they bought legally and they now have to get rid of their legally purchased property. As I have said before people balk at big changes so you start slow and over time you get the final desired result of no guns. Where do you draw the line? How far do you move the line back the next time the useless regulations do not work? How far back the time after that?

The big question is will banning AR-15’s and high capacity magazines going to end valance? Will it slow it down? Should we address the real issues for a change instead of trying to pass costly feel good measures that do nothing to even slow down this type of tragedy? Why do people keep trying to hold all of the country to blame for the actions of a very small minority? When do we lay blame at the feet of the people who are guilty?

Could a regular pistol have done the job as well?

You have to have a permit to own a pistol in NY state and be 21 years of age. A shotgun would have protected them as well. On the other hand in the Newtown shootings Adam had 2 or 4 pistols and a shotgun if loaded with buckshot would have been just as lethal.Everyone would have been just as dead. What was left out of this story ......Sunday January 20, two nearly identical crimes were committed.

About 7, two young black men with a gun broke into the apartment of a couple of University of Rochester students and robbed them of electronics.

About 5 hours later, at midnight, two young black men with a gun broke into the apartment of a couple of Rochester Institute of Technology students and attempted to rob them.

The two home invasions took place in the same neighborhood of the same city on the same night.

That was not the first they tried to commit a crime that night.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

So you can have an AR-15, but not a pistol? I don't know enough about the law the really question it, but ok.

Also, what does the race of the two criminals have to do with this?

And here people are hating on cigarettes. The proof is in the pudding. Cigarettes cure diseases. Cigarettes are good for you.
